New .223 bull, a few questions.

Hi guys,
Joined a long time ago, but just bought a handi for the first time in a long time, she is a .223 bull barrel with camo synthetic stock.  I bought her as a coyote gun.

My one problem is the trigger pull.  I measured it with a digital scale tonight at just a hair under 7 lbs.  Even for a lawyer-proof factory trigger, that seems pretty ridiculous to me.  I have done some gun work, but never a trigger job, and looking through the instructions posted on this site, there are too many tools I just don't have for me to feel comfortable trying.

I looked at Ilion's policy as posted on here that if it's over 5.5, they will do a trigger job for free.  Does this only happen if I get the thing sent in for fitting another barrel, or can I send it in under warranty for the trigger job on their dime?

If I do decide to get it sent in for another barrel, I would like something fairly cheap to shoot, with iron sights, and powerful enough to hog hunt with.  Are the .44 mag barrels generally pretty accurate ones?

One more question for all you guys who have bull-barreled .223s that are tack drivers- what is the most common mod you have seen as far as maximizing accuracy out of the .223 bull barrel?  O-ring?  pressure point(s)?  Full bedding?

I have read that FAQs back to front and back again.  Tons of great info and I printed out everything about accurizing for when I finally get to the range.  Just wanted to poll folks who have gotten the most out of the .223 bull barrel to see what was most likely to be my ticket to a dream shooter.

And I can't find anything about trigger jobs in the absence of getting a new barrel fitted.

If I missed something, I am really sorry to be a bother.  Again, I am really excited to become a member of the Handi fraternity.  When I get this gun doing its thing, there will be pics

The only specialized tool is a slave pin. Even that is pretty easily made from a piece of drill. You will need a clean well lit place to work, two different sized drive pins, a hammer and a couple sharpening stones.

I haven't herd of their doing them for free accept for occasionally when sent in for other work. Even then, Not done on their dime.

Yes, the 44 mag would make an excellent choice. OLDER 44's have been found to have over-sized bores. Current and recent barrels have proven good shooters.

The addition of the "O" Ring is something very common. many times results in smaller or more consistent groups. But it depends on the bedding of the forend. if there was no problem to begin with there is nothing to "fix".  Bedding is a good idea and a bit harder then rolling on a "O" ring to the post.

shoot 100 rds. inexpensive jacketed ammo, while cleaning frequently. then, clean barrel, shoot 3-5 fouling shots, and then shoot for group. may need NOTHING more!! if not satisfied, THEN start working thru accuracy tips in faq. my 1/9 bull 223 shot moa at 250 after doing just the shoot/clean break-in! you never know, but it does happen and you may not have to do the extra work/expense! regards, jather...

I say take it out to shoot first also.

I just bought the same gun as you with the laminate stock. I took it out to shoot and put 40 rounds through it but didn't like what I was getting.

My trigger pull was outrageous, I did a trigger job using the link the FAQ and a fine whetstone, pulls like a dream now.

My 1 in 9 223 was all over the place until I tried different ammo. Nothing
else was required so try several different brands of ammo before you get
too concerned about groups. Oh.. do the o-ring thing right now, it helped
mine so much I use them on the T/Cs...You can say T/C here, can't you?
