Rifle barrel on shotgun reciever
« on: January 02, 2013, 12:47:30 PM »
Stupid question.....new to the handi world.... I have a 12lightweight gauge slug(980) gun and a 10 ga. turkey gun and was wondering why H&R will only fit those barrels back to them. Can I install a rifle barrel myself? Thanks.

You can NOT unless it is .357 or .44 barrel.  Give the FAQs a read, that should clear everything up.

Welcome!  The only stupid question is the one left unasked.  The reason H&R won't do so is because of the differences in the strength of the frame.  Regarding your question as to installing a rifle barrel yourself, the answer is no.  Here's the reason why, and an explanation that I copied from the FAQ's:

Can I put a rifle barrel on a shotgun frame?

H&R won't fit Rifle barrels other than 357mag and 44 mag on a shotgun frame since the shotgun frame is not heat treated to handle the pressure. Since rifle frames are heat treated investment cast alloy steel, they are safe to use higher pressures, the lower pressure shotgun barrels don't present a hazard to the firearm and/or user as the inverse does. The larger firing pin and surrounding hole in the frame is also an issue.

45LC barrel on an SB1 frame?
