. Also, anyone shooting this round, especially with Black Powder?

? I've been thinking about this and having both a rifle and pistol in the same caliber.......might be fun. Lord this really does NEVER end does it?

Yes as long as its a H&R.They wont fit it to a Wesson & Harrington.

Seems to me it's an SB2 frame and they can fit anything to it. Guys, if I'm wrong, holler.

The CR-45LC comes on an SB2 rifle frame, the BC frame is just faux case colored. They won't fit any barrels to any Wesson & Harrington frame tho, they have no record of when they were made, the info was lost in the move to Ilion. Until I learn otherwise(I'm waitng for a reply now) the 45LC accessory barrel requires a 1999 or later frame even tho it's not an * marked barrel.

I shot mine as a 45 Colt with a couple loads, 250gr Speer and 250gr SST, both at about 1900fps, but it has since become a 460S&W.

WOW......BIG PROBLEM FOR MOI!!!!! If H&R will NOT fit anything to a Wesson & Harrington frame I am so screwed and so is Jon's dad.....heres why. I was JUST about to send off my 38-55 Barrel to Jon's dad and then send in my frame for a fir for a 45-70......now I'm thinking that IF I remove the barrel and sell it I have no chance of having the factory fit a new barrel either 45 Long Colt or 45-70 Buffalo Classic!!!!!!!!

I should explain....I HAVE 3 38-55's (don't ask why....I just do

) Two Wesson & Harringtons and one H&R version.

My #1 rifle (named Woodrow Call) 'Old Scout" fixed up and it shoots sweet.

I just bought a second Wesson and Harrington from TOTW but it needs to have the chamber "corrected". This I was going to send to Jon's dad and then send in the frame to H&R to have it fitted for 45-70...ya I know convoluted but this is me........go figure

...(too much wine when surfing one night for sure on that purchase).

I have a third, this one is a H&R version and its in CA at Richard Clark's shop and was....(hes not feeling well) going to be cut back to 24" for a 38-55 Hunting Classic. I just sent him word to call off the cut-back when he feels better and just fix the chamber and install the steel trigger guard. I love 'Old Scout' by the way...a real American hero in my book.

Now I'm VERY weary of selling off the W&H Barrel because I'll not get Factory assistance in fitting barrels........oh crap!!!!!

....I promissed to sell it off nbut I feel like I'd be cutting my own throat.....so to speak......crap

Call them and ask, maybe they found the lost documentation on those frames, they use to fit them at Gardner.

You're going backwards. You need to go forward. I thought the same thing and just bought a BFR single-action in 45-70 to go with my BC.

just get a new whole gun...leave old stuff intact

do they still make the 20in 45 colt BC with the strait stock
they used to any way

if not get the 32 inch 45-70 and sent it in for 45 colt

Finally got it and finally got to shoot it today. Shoots like a very heavy load 44 mag. on steroids. I was shooting my trapdoor loads - 405gr cast, 31 gr. H4198. I shot it 10 times and had to put it down. I could have shot it more(after a bit of stress rest), but I had some other guns I wanted to shoot. I thought I had cured my flinch, but now it's back.

I called H&R some time ago about the Target Classic (38-55 while they were still producing them) and asked if a 45-70 barrel could be fitted to it. The answer was "no". The tech I spoke with recommended me to buy a 45-70 Buffalo Classic and then have the 38-55 barrel fitted to it. I still to this day don't know why. The tech said that the 38-55 Target Classic frame wasn't as strong as the BC frame. At the time I didn't know of the SB-1/SB-2 designations, had I known, I would have asked if the TC is on a SB-1 frame, which is what I believe the tech was incinuating.

Is this true?? If so, TopperT, you might not want to put a 45-70 barrel on that target classic (if what I'm reading is correct)

No, it's not true unless you're referring to a Wesson and Harrington 38-55 frame which they won't fit any barrel to now, Gardner would, but Ilion won't unless they have found the W&H serial number build year info that was lost in the move from Gardner to Ilion. The H&R 38-55 Target uses the same SB2 frame as the Buffalo Classic, whom ever told you that misunderstood the question, or was just plain wrong. They also won't fit a 45LC barrel to any SB2 frame made before 1999.

i held the 20 inch colt 45 BC just last sunday at the shot show
they still making them same stock and case colar as the 45-70

Thanks Tim. That's kind of what I thought....I guess the tech was just plain wrong. This was before I owned my Wesson and Harrington and was looking to buy a new rifle. At the time I couldn't decide on the 38-55 or the 45-70 to start with.
...It wouldn't be the first time I got incorrect info from some of the H&R techs, unfortunately.

I'm glad you cleared that up for me as well as everyone else and Topper T. I wouldn't want anyone to be misled by me original post.
