FWIW, I bought a 700 ADL in 7mag back in 1967 or 1968 that was supposed to have a stainless barrel. I don't remember if it was marked as such on the box or the barrel, but I was a bit of a doubter later on when I discovered some areas on the barrel that appeared to have rust, although the surface was still smooth. A friend's dad had a BDL in 7mag that did the same thing. Years later, if I remember correctly, I read that Remington had plated the stainless barrels with copper, and then iron, so they could be blued. Seems that some of the iron must have come off and revealed the copper. That ADL was a VERY accurate rifle that I used on groundhogs and deer in PA. When I moved to FL, however, I guess the heat addled my brain and I sold it.
