I own 5 Remington Model 700's. IMHO Remington quality has gone downhill,
if I was looking for a M-700 I'd look around and pick up a good used one(s); say Pre-1995. They were definitely better then.
I bought a 2004 Model 700 "Classic" in 8x57 caliber. The bloody scope mounting holes on the top of the receiver are not aligned straigth! Believe it or not... fortunately I put Leopold rings on that and the rear windage adjustment feature allows the scope to sit straight in line with the receiver/barrel. And I know other guys that bought that same 2004 "Classic" and had the same problem.
The Remingtons I own were built in 1980; 1982; 1983; 1996 and 2004 and there's a definite difference in the triggers especially. The older guns had great triggers. One thing about mine, all of them except that 2004 8x57 are very accurate. I get sub 1" 5-shot groups with my .30-06, .270 and .300H&H. My .338 will do about 1.25" for 5-shots. The 8x57 needs a bed job.
So look around. Check the Remington serial number system and use it to find the year of manufacture. People are always selling off those older rifles thinking they need something "new and improved".
Lots of good old rifles out there for sale.

Or go out and buy a
Tikka. My buddy bought one recently and says
it is the best out of box rifle he has ever purchased[/i], and that's saying a lot since he has owns 50+ rifles and has sold that many again.
