I prefer lower powered lights myself. My primary spotlight is a Brinkman "Mini Q-Beam". I paint the lense with a few coats of a red Marks-A-Lot marker, and it works great.
Most of your shots will be, and should be for safety under 100 yards at night time. It's very easy even with a very dim light to see eyes out there at several hundred yards. When they're within 100 yards or less, again, it doesn't take a very bright light to see plenty good enough to put the crosshairs where they need to go.
Too much light, red or not, will end up spooking animals that otherwize would've come on in to your calling.
