After about 5 rifles I started to try filling in the gaps in calibers I own so I'd be prepared for most of what I'm apt to hunt.  I also reload for what I own and haven't purchased commercial fodder in some years.  For many years I was quite happy with my rifles, now I'm a bit leery.  It's really become a grab bag out there.  You can get some real stinkers on occasion.  My arsenal now consists of:

.17 Remington (Rem700BDL)
.222Rem. (Rem.40XBBR)
.222Rem. (Sako Varminter)
.222Rem.Mag. (Sako/Hart)
.22-250Rem (Savage/Hart)
.243Win. (Savage 110)
6mm Rem. (Remington VLS)
.25-06Rem (Remington BDL)
6.5x55 (Remington Classic)
6.5x55 (3 Swedish M96 mausers)
7mm Rem. Mag. (Remingtob 700BDL)
.303SMLE (British Mk4 No.1)
.308Win. (Browning Micromedallion)
8x57 (German M98 mauser)

As you can tell, I still have some gaps to fill in, and I'm still not prepared for an encounter with friend Grizzley but I'm working on it.  Best wishes.

Kind of embarassing, but I usually have about 75 or 80. If it gets much over that, I sell some off, as that is about all the storage space I have. Can't quit buying more, though!

Ain't got enough fingers and toes to count that high.  Wife won't let me borrow hers and the grandkids won't hold still long enough.  After the first 30 or so who counts anymore anyway.  Lawdog

I have noticed that women can't count past two or three. If they have more than two pairs of shoes, usually 10 or more, they say they have a couple or so. If you have more than two guns, it all of a sudden becomes "all those guns!" Glad I'm not married any more!

I love my guns but I only keep guns I use for hunting. I don't want to have a dilemma of which gun I want to use. I pick enough to cover from small game and varmints to dangerous game.

True enough and sound reasoning there.  Collecting certain rifles does have itÂ’s drawbacks.  I have some rifles that will most likely never see a day in the fields/woods hunting.  One example is my .378 Weatherby Magnum Mark V Deluxe.  Scoped and sighted in but I will never hunt with it.  Same will go for a .416 & .460 Weatherby Magnums when I finally get them.  Like most hunters I have my favorites.  Most of the time when heading out the door for calling varmints I grab my Ruger No.1 .22 Hornet.  Over 3,000 rounds thru this and still going strong.  Deer hunting where the chances of running into a bear are slim to zero then my old tang safety Ruger M77V in .25-06 gets the nod.  When Black Bears and/or Wild Boar are in the offering with deer than itÂ’s either my DadÂ’s custom 1917 Enfield .30-06 or my 42 year old .300 Weatherby that I grab.  Going out of state(like visiting relations in Alaska) then I will guarantee that the .300 Weatherby gets packed first.  I used to add to that my .340 Weatherby but since getting my .375 Weatherby(just fell in love with this rifle/cartridge) it goes along now instead.  My recommendation is to NEVER let the collecting bug bite you.  YouÂ’ll live NOT to regret it.   :-D   Lawdog

Lawdog, my problem is I don't get attached to any guns. I have some I like a lot and some I get just to try. I like to shoot different guns and usually after I take an animal or shot it a lot I want something else. I have had hundreds of rifles and handguns over the years. I don't collect guns, I just shoot them. I currently have about 35 guns in all, I find shooting more fun than collecting.  :D

A pair of .260s, and a .221. Now that I'm an official old timer, I don't need many. I'm thinkin' about gettin' rid of the Fireball, and one of the .260s. Front stuffers fill my needs nowadays.

Redhawk1, my problem is I do get attached to many(most, according to my wife/mother/those that get to know me) of my firearms.  A number of them because of sentimental reasons(inherited/gifts/etc.) or just because they are so beautiful they are works of art.  Stay the way you are.  Catching the collecting bug gets expensive and takes up room.  Plus you have to have a very understanding wife, mine is just such a woman, that will tolerate such a habit.  Lawdog

I don't know if I save any money as you put it. By the time I buy the dies and reloading supplies for all the different gun I buy, and then shoot them and resale them. As I see it, we both spend a great deal on our hobby and sport.  :D

Well I just picked up my CZ 550 Safari Magnum 416 Rigby. It is a very good looking gun. Heavy, but needs to be. I just mounted a Leupold Vari XIII 1.5X5X20mm on it and bore sighted it. I will have to wait tell I get back from my bear hunt to Maine to go shoot it. Leaving Sunday.  :-D  :D

Well, I'm down to three:

Winchester M70 Stealth in 22-250
Kimber 8400 Classic in 300 WSM
and a Ruger M77 270 built in 1976.

I ran out of safe space and need to get a bigger safe.  :)

Hi All,

Well to my mind there are only two possibly answers to thsi question :-

1) Not enough

2) Too many

I'll let you all decide which it should be

In my case I am strictly going with answer No1

Possibly we guys  all suffer from a "lack of space syndrome."  My wife calls it the "tackle box diseaee."  The way she explains it we take a look at our tackle box one day and say "hmmm, I'm runing out of room here!"
We then rush out and buy a new, bigger tackle box and put our gear into it.  Now this bigger, new tackle box looks half empty.  It's embarrassing so we quickly start to fill it up.  After a while we noitice that the newer box isn't so new any more but it is filled to the brim.  No more space so we rush out and repeat the process.  Personally I can no longer even life my box to carry it into the boat.  I'm afraid it's the same way with our firearms.  I have to have a shotgun of every guage, and a rifle of almost every caliber.  I'm just about poor now and I just noticed my house is too small for my toys, but damnit I'm not moving.  I'm sure others suffer the same fate, but it sure is fun.  Best wishes.

Two:

Ruger 25-06 m77mkII
Savage 338-06  model 110

Closest thing to a magnum is the 25-06. I really like the 25-06 but if I had to choose one I'd take the 338-06 everytime.

.25-06 (custom made by my father)
.30-06 (Springfield sportsterized by my father)
.243 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight
.30-06 Remington 700 ADL

My son owns a .30-30 Winchester Model 94 that sits in my gun cabinet, so I sort of count this among my five though I don't use it.
