Being that Remington manufactures about 90% of their firearms at their Ilona, NY plant, they can't afford to close it down any time soon or their going to be out of the firearm business. I don't know anymore about this then what the article you provided said. One thing I do know is that its the "corporate way" now a days for large companies to "strong arm" their venders and suppliers into lowering their prices. A lot of large companies are also outsourcing a lot of their operations to smaller companies to lower their operating costs. Sometimes this makes sense and sometimes this doesn't.
I work in the auto industry and this is were it started. GM, Ford and Daimlerchrysler have put many venders out of business by doing this. Sometimes the little guy has no choice but to close the doors and tell the customer they have to go elsewhere. I can't tell you how many different venders we have gone through in the last 5 or 6 years because of this. We have two main power sources at our plant. Niagra Mohawk guarantees that we never lose power or they have to pay us for any loses we have because of it. I've worked there for 8 years and we haven't lost power on a plant wide basis yet. In 1998 during the labor day storm when most of Central New York (including everyone around the plant for miles) was without power, the plant wasn't. Remington should take over the steam plant and live happily ever after! Just my opinion!
