Black Bear hunting in Cattaraugus County: Where??
« on: September 12, 2005, 07:11:24 AM »
Hi:

Where are some good places to hunt Black Bear in Cattaraugus County? I was planning on hunting the Bush Hill State Forest in Farmersville and the Harwood Lake Cooperative Hunting Area. Any Bears in that area?

Thanks,

Yes there are bears in the Bush Hill area. However I am not sure on there numbers. I guess the closer you get to the PA border the more bear there are. So I'd look consider going to a state forest land near a the border and proably close to the Alleghany state park since bear hunting is not allowed in the park and the population in that area is pretty high. With that in mind there is the South Valley State Forest lands which are just across the Alleghany reservoir from the park. Also there are a quite a few state forests with in a very short distance of the park including Bucktooth, McCarty Hil, Dobbins, Elkdale, Windfall and Nine Mile Creek. I hope that helps. If your interested I have some property that borders the Bucktooth state forest area I could give you some more specific if your interested in hunting down there.

Closer to the Pa line is probably better, but be careful..
If youi inadvertantly step across the invisible line into one of the Indian reservations....it can cost you dearly...
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
