Two points to add to the discussion.
First, I have Millet AngleLoc rings on my Tikka M695(Stainless/Laminate) Whitetail
Hunter, in .25-06 Rem, and have no issues with these rings. They are holding down
a Nikon Monarch scope, and the last group I shot with this combo was a .4 MOA,
with 85 gr. Combined Tech. Ballistic Tips.
I just received a set of Warne Maxima Grooved Receiver series rings, in the "high"
size, with a matte finish...Yes they are heavy. They were to be used to mount a
Mueller Optics 4-16x50mm Sport Dot scope, on a new T-3, in .223 Rem.. Well
"High" isn't high enough for this scope, with the 50mm objective. Actually
there is enough clearance to mount the scope, but the objective ring on the scope
just ever so slightly touches the top of the barrel. Not good for the finish, and
this may introduce a pressure point on the barrel, as it warms. So, I have a set of
"High" Warne rings to add to my pile of "extra" scope rings, and Brownell will be
getting an order for "Extra High" Warne rings.
I do agree with Zachary, that on a light rifle, that one wants to stay a light rifle,
these rings do not make sense. But I actually want this .223 to have little
muzzle jump, so the extra weight, from the Warne rings, and the heavy
Mueller scope, should help here. I know I should have just purchased a heavy
barrel varminter, but I just could not help myself when this little T-3, in .223 Rem.
was calling my name in the gun shop. I purchased it for some varmint shooting,
near country residences, with low report rounds. And it does that well.
