QUESTION ABOUT THE GLOCK 23
« on: February 01, 2003, 10:41:57 AM »
HI GUYS

IN THE LAST 5 YEARS I HAVE BEEN A DEVOTED SIX SHOOTER.  BUT TODAY I WENT INTO MY LOCAL GUN SHOP AND IN THE FRONT ROW OF HIS DISPLAY CASE I SEEN IT,  A GLOCK23.  NOW BEING A MARINE CORPS. VET THE FIRST PISTOL THAT I SHOT WAS THE COLT 1911.  I WAS'NT INPRESSED BECAUSE BEING A LEFTY IT WAS A PAIN IN THE A$$ TRYING TO OPERATE A PISTOL THAT WAS MADE FOR RIGHT HANDED SHOOTERS.  SO IT KIND OF TURNED ME OFF OF AUTO'S AND I BOUGHT A COUPLE OR WHEEL GUNS.
BUT BACK TO THE GUN SHOP. I ASKED THE OWNER THAT I GOT TO KNOW PRETTY GOOD OVER THE YEARS TO LET ME TAKE A LOOK AT IT, AND IMIDIATELY FEEL IN LOVE.  THE SLIDE AND MAG RELEASE I FOUND WERE VERY EASY TO GET TO WITH MY TRIGGER FINGER AND THE SIZE ,WEIGHT AND 10 ROUNDS OF .40 S&W MAKES IT PERFECT FOR CARRYING CONCEALED YEAR ROUND.
NOW THE QUESTION THAT I HAVE FOR YOU GUYS IS IF ANYONE HAS THIS MODEL AND HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?  HOW DOE'S THE RECOIL EFFECT TWO SHOT STRINGS, WHAT AMMO IS BEST ETC.  ANY INPUT WILL BE VERY HELPFUL.  YOU NEVER KNOW YOU GUYS  MIGHT CONVERT ME TO A  AUTO GUY!  LOL

                                                         THANKS

QUESTION ABOUT THE GLOCK 23

With practice you can learn how to do a "trigger reset". This is, not allowing the trigger to return to full reset after the first round is fired.  You allow the trigger to move about an 1/8th of an inch forward after the first round has been fired then squeeze it for the second round. Once you get used to using this method you can start speeding things up and before you know it your double tapping faster than ever before. With practice you can keep the rounds in a tight group at combat distance (7-10 yards). You will find that the slide on the Glock cycles very fast. The Glock 18 will cycle faster than a H&K mp5 in full auto (1800 rounds a minute).

I hope that helps, I don't have a G23. I carry a G22 on duty and a G27 off duty. I would not hesitate to pick up a G23 if I were you. Some people say that the Glocks are ugly and I would agree if beauty was based on outward apperences alone but when it comes to reliability Glocks have few peers.

MY 2 cents. Jay

KenDep is right on the mark.  I train a Police department of 25 with Glock 23 as our sidearm.  It is really a great gun!  It is a shift from a wheel gun, but with practice, is very worth it...Good Luck! :D

QUESTION ABOUT THE GLOCK 23

thanks guys,

Everything that i heard about the Glock was something positive.  I never heard not one thing bad about this side arm.  As for apearance i think they look better than any other auto that i have seen.  There reputation for being reliable is second to none, which makes this revolver guy ready to cross over to the other side lol.  Because reliability is the biggest reason i stayed with the revolver for as long as i have.  I have looked at the g27 also, but it was kind of small for the size of my hand.  I thought about the g22 but i want something that will conceal good in the summer so that is why im strongly concidering the g23.
How is the recoil compared to say a .38 or the .357? being they are what i shot mostly.
Also what weight of bullet would you sugest useing for self defense?

                                                   thanks again for your input

I think you are going to find the recoil "different".  Let me explain...the revolver and single shot is a hard breach, all of the recoil energy is transferred directly to the hand.  Escpecially with the 357 comparison, the blast will be much lower, and the recoil impulse will be springy,, remember, some of the energy of the round drives the spring captured slide.  The last part of the cycle is the slide hitting home with the new round, pushing the front sight back toward the original point of aim, follow up shots are easy if you use your arms and shoulders and "springs".  Hope this helps... :D

Glock 23C
« Reply #5 on: February 06, 2003, 09:54:34 AM »
I have carried a Glock 23C for CCW for almost 5 years now.  Some claim the "C" (Compensated) is not a good gun for personal defense carry, but I disagree after carrying and practicing with it for almost 5 years now.  The main reason I chose the 23C model is because of the faster recovery from firing multiple rounds. The main feature I like about the "C" model is that the "hotter" the round you use, the greater the effect the "Comp" has on muzzle climb and recovery. I have fired it at night and the "muzzle flash" is not BLINDING, as some seem to claim it is. I've even thought of ways to use it to my advantage should I ever become involved in any attempt to disarm me by physical struggle for its possession - nothing like a "flash" in the bad-guys face to give him second thoughts about it, but that would probably be the least of his worries once he released his grip on it or my hand/arm.

I use the Corbon 135gr +P in .40 S&W for my personal defense and CCW rounds. They are one of the "hottest" rounds available in .40 S&W and have a good law enforcement record of "Stopping Ability".

I also have a Ruger KP91DC in .40 S&W and it is also extremely accurate, but I prefer my Glock 23C for CCW carry and general shooting. Its recoil is "sharp and snappy", yet not as strong as the .357 you're probably use to using. If you shoot the .357 well, then the Glock 23 will BE A PLEASURE TO SHOOT in comparison. I hope this info has helped you.

WELL GUYS,  I DID IT.  I PICKED UP MY G23 TODAY AND I WALKED OUT OF THAT GUN SHOP WITH SOME SERIOUS WOOD!  I TRADED MY 2 REVOLVERS AND GOT A GREAT DEAL.  I ALSO PICKED UP 2 EXTRA MAGS,  2 - 50 ROUND BOXES OF FEDERAL HYDRA SHOCK BULLETS AND A UNCLE MIKES BELT SLIDE HOLSTER.
IT WAS TOO LATE TO GO SHOOT TODAY SO ILL BE OFF TO THE RANGE TOMARROW.  HOPEFULLY THE CLUB PLOWED THE RANGE OFF BECAUSE WE GOT SEVERAL FEET OF SNOW ON THE GROUND.
I WANT TO THANK YOU GUYS ALOT FOR ALL THE INPUT THAT YOU GAVE ME.
I'LL LET YOU GUYS KNOW HOW I MADE OUT.

                                           THANKS AGAIN

I don't own a Glock but today I borrowed one from my local club to shoot in a tournament.  Didn't have a single problem at all, yes I did win.
