For the best cure in the world take a youngster with you and see the hunt through his or her eyes, guaranteed to bring back the thrill.

whacker,

I am serious.  I went to the Doc and told him I felt like hell and didn't feel like doing any of the things I had always enjoyed.  I told him I just didn't have any energy.  Anyhoooo, he told me that I had a classic case of depression.  I did not feel woe is me or anything.

Ya never know.

Dave :-)

VTDW, Thats a smart Doc you have there. Depression is not just feeling "woe is me". It's also just not feeling anything at all, you are right, classic symptoms. If you can, get out there and move, do something, anything, then do something else, physical effort is GREAT, perhaps start working out, thats a great cure if you have enough left in you to do it. It is possible to help yourself out of it. If not, make sure you ask that smart Doc what he suggests. And please, follow through with it....<><....

VTDW, This is my 1,000th post and I really hope it helps to make a difference.

VTDW, since I made the above post at 1239 hours todays date, 6 of my posts have vanished!!!???!!!....<><.... :?

What else is odd is that I posted to Mr. GB inquiring where they went and which posts they were, if they were perhaps all included in thread that was deleted in it's entirety and now that post is gone as well!!!....<><....

MSP Ret,

I believe that if you PM Bill or the moderators on the forums you posted on he/they will see what is going on and let you know.

Aw, they have enough problems playing parent around here. I just got home from a Town Golf Committee meeting and I think I'll have a nice glass of warm milk (or something on ice perhaps?) to help me unwind and then say my prayers and a good nights sleep. With any luck I'll be able to get that last bullet back soon....<><....

Hi MSP Ret :D
If you find a cure, let me know. I experience the same thing. Leave my tools out and not put them up for days, no get up and go, my wife is always complaining about the projects, I start, and dont finish, etc,. I know how you feel. I`m 59, and think its just part of getting older? I dunno. I do know that when I get on my tread mill and walk my one mile in the morning and then another mile in the evening, I feel 100% better. But if I don`t walk that first mile in the morning, I feel worn out all day. I have high blood pressure, so you might want to go to your doctor if you haven`t already and get a check up.
What I`m trying to say is your not alone :D

A trip to the doctor probably is a good idea and a good place to start.  If you're not really comfortable w/ medicating, then talk about lifestyle changes that might help.

Exercising and diet changes may make all the difference in the world...

Are you sleeping well? OR, do you snore heavily and toss and turn?

EVERYONE goes through cycles of mild depression whether they want to admit it or not!!

And if the lack of interest is just related to hunting only, then I second the opinion of mentoring a kid or new hunter.  Or, you could change methods of hunting. (bow only, iron sights only, muzzleloader only).  I get bored w/ hunting when I have to hunt by myself a lot.  I like to team up w/ other hunters.

For me, when I got into better physical shape and starting eating healthier, I felt a lot better.  I now have plenty of energy!!

Whacker and Bullet Maker, your buddies on this post are very perceptive.  You are describing almost classic symptoms of depression.  These include a lack of enthusiasm and interest, difficulty in starting and completing projects, fatigue, etc.
Find a good doctor (I know, not so easy) and discuss with him/her.  Lots of treatments available besides drugs.
Also agree that getting out and doing things with kids is a good idea.  Their optimism and enthusiasm tends to be contagious.  Remember, every day can be a new adventure, and you have to make the most of them.
