What calibre are those unfluted smith hunters? and is that blued smith with the target grips a 5 screw, a pre 27 maybe?

:cb2: I'd have to go with the FA83 in .44 mag., 5.5 or 6" octagonal barrel, gold bead front sight with V notch rear, and micarta grips.

But since that ain't a gonna happen anytime soon, I'll settle for my two .44 Bisleys. One with a red dot, the other open. But I think I will send the open sited one off to Gary Reeder and get those gold bead/V sights and a throat job.

You guys and your photos just make me sick.

We all want the ultimate hunting revolver but scant few can really afford one like some of these guys and their "showoff" pictures. For me its a stainless Ruger .45 Blackhawk 5 1/2" with the following added (and I might add cheap $$$ features):

1) Bisley or Hunter Model grip frame

2) Millett rear sight with the white outline for seeing in the woods close to dark. Bowens are nice but just try and use one at 5:00 in the evening. I paint my front sight white for the same reason and one day I'm gonna sent it off and have an insert put in. At the range black is nice but in the woods its a handicap.

3) Spring kit (they really do work!)

4) Pretty grips (ok, ok they don't actually do anything for practicality but they sure do make it look good).

5) SBH hammer (see #4)

6) Freespin pawl. Do it yourself and save $$$$.

7) Taller front sight from Ruger (Did I mention they are free for the asking?). Install it yourself and save $$$$.

And last but not least have it bead blasted to keep the shine down. This may have to cost you something and it costs more than a can of Rustoleum but seems worth the money.

There!! ............... the ultimate blue collar hunting revolver.

P.S. Does Rustoleum come in Treebark camo?

45LC-Man, I like the pcitures. And I wouldn't have the pretty grips but, would take the Herretts Jordan Troopers everytime! As far as sights, I have been looking at this issue for about a year now. So far the red dot scopes seems to be the easiest to see in any light condition. To my eyes, white paint disappears, and black blends in so well that it looks like it was never there. Besides, the scope gather more available light! By the way, I saw more deer taken with what most here would consider worn out pistols (blue worn off, look like they were dragged behind a pickup on a rope) than with the new shiney ones, with all the bells and whistles, in last years deer woods. Just my observasions.

Some guns are expensive and some are not. Some wish to save their pennies and buy the expensive stuff and some do not. But in the end if its a suitable caliber and it goes boom and groups them acceptably the deer sure wont know the difference on how much the gun cost. Its all in what you are happy with and how you wish to spend your money. As long as people enjoy handgun hunting and practice enough to get the job done Im happy.

:cb2: I bought enough spring kits and free spin thingies to do several guns, but after one I sent them all back. The free spinning cylinder didn't thrill me much--missed my clicks--and I couldn't tell any difference with the springs to justify the price. Oh, well. Kept the larger base pins.
