Air Traffic Controllers
« on: November 09, 2025, 01:13:22 AM »
Personally I don't care if another commercial air plane ever flies again, but I don't understand why the government employs the air traffic controllers. Maybe someone can give a knowledgeable reason why these aren't employees of the airport they work for. If they were, obviously there wouldn't be the problem there is now.
The federal government could mess up a ball bearing with a rubber hammer.

Like you Dee I could give a rats behind about commercial air travel. Haven't flew in 15 years and never will again. If I can't drive I don't need to go! I think after this fiasco of a shutdown a whole bunch of government run crap needs looked at. I agree with Trump also about the filibuster, do away with it! I'm sure if the demoncraps were in control it will happen soon enough.

What we used to need was term limits. Its  never gonna happen, congress will never vote themselves out of a job, but with term limits the way things are now could really make things crazy.

Government can never do anything as well, or efficient as the private sector can, and that includes air traffic control.

If I were an air traffic controller I think I'd find another job. You don't pay, I don't work. If they'd all walk off when they missed their first check, this would have been settled the 1st week.

Wasn't it Reagan that fired all the air traffic controllers who walked off the job once?  :-\

I haven't flown commercially, since I flew home from my European duty in 1965, and don't plan on flying any time soon.  ..Not that I have any fear of flying, but I just hate the big crowds and the junk that has been tossed into the game since 9/11.

That being said, I believe the FAA runs the airports and employees primarily for the purposes of uniformity.  Uniformity as to how to handle weather conditions, landing and takeoff rules and sundry other details, much like, but perhaps even more important than, highway rules.

After all, if your plane quits, you can't just pull it over and park it until AAA arrives !   ;D

Uniformity as to rules and regs was long ago recognized, particularly for international airports ! For instance, it was long ago, that the FAA and other national bodies recognized the need for a single accepted, universal language, to save confusion.  Therefore, English was chosen as the language of the airlines.

Not all airports are treated the same, or regulated the same.  One wouldn't expect a small, local airport in Chile or Bhutan, to necessarily stick to the English only
   proscription.

So, airports are regulated by their class...   https://www.faa.gov/airports/airport_safety/part139_cert/classes-of-airports

ch is why English was chosen

Asked the same question a week ago on that subject on a news sight. Was told that the airlines have a fee they pay the government for air traffic controllers. Guess that means the job is subsidized by private industry. Didn't go any further in checking it out, true or not, I don't know.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman
