Ukraine has made home made drones that sunk a Russian ship using a small boat with a bomb on board remote controlled via a Starlink antenna on board. We bought a Starlink mobile. Antenna is about as big as a notebook. Works great streaming the internet. Better than I expected. Going to use it on a travel trailer. It can be mounted on a glass sun or moon roof in a vehicle with suction cups to allow you to get internet while driving.
So, saying that, yeah not hard to make a lot of small drones, either flying or small boats to attack airports, ships, even a remote controlled tank being smaller not having to have humans on board. Army is now using flying drones to fly over a village to check for possible enemy combatants. Some of these small drones look like birds gliding. Some as small as a dragonfly with cameras to see what is going on. High flying drones are now used to fire missiles at an enemy. If the high flying drone is stealthy, would not be picked up on radar. So, big tanks, ships, and planes, could be shot down, bombed, etc, by someone sitting in the Pentagon watching a TV screen and using a joystick to control it. Oh, and the Air Force is working on drones that can fly like a flock of birds. Cheaply made that can attack a target. Hard to shoot down the whole flock.
I think we should build more smaller aircraft carriers that can go through the Panama Canal, like the carriers of WWII. A small carrier can carry about 20-30 fighter planes. Japan recently built two carriers that can carry 20 F-35's an a few helicopters. Our large carriers can carry 80-90 planes. So, build 4 smaller ones to replace one big one. Also build more stealth shaped destroyers to protect the carriers. Automate the ships as much as possible to have minimum crews. Oh, the Navy is experimenting with smaller stealth fighter planes that can fly and fight without a pilot.
In WWII, by the wars end, we had over 5,000 ships, all of which could get through the Panama Canal. About 25 aircraft carriers, 25 battle ships, the rest cruisers, destroyers, submarines, PT boats, and landing craft. After the angled nuclear powered aircraft carriers took over almost all were scrapped. They did try to refit and bring back into service the 4 largest battleships during the Reagan administration. Should have refit them again with more modern computers. By the 1980's no one had a missile or anything short of a nuclear weapon to sink one of our battleships. We need to build them this way again. Even a drone would only scratch the paint off.
