Humvee's
« on: August 05, 2025, 11:13:44 PM »
see where the army isnt ordering anymore. there being replaced by a chev colorado based smaller faster unit and polaris razors. said armor doesnt mean much today with drone missiles and speed and agility would actually make them safer than a humvee. almost sad to see them go. theyve become probably more used and iconic than even the jeep

Might be able to get a used one on the cheap if you know where to look. The military auctions equipment off periodically.

The military seems to be opting for 'lighter and faster"..  ..And it is doing it in tanks..just as I suggested.  all current Abrams models on freeze...switching over to the Abrams M1E3.

Still 63 tons, but that's about 10 tons lighter than the original.

  https://www.armyrecognition.com/news/army-news/army-news-2024/us-army-launches-fifth-generation-combat-vehicle-with-m1e3-abrams-tank-modernization-program?highlight=WyJjdXJ

The Marines recently dropped the main battle tank (Abrams) from its TOE, since it doesn't quite fill it's mission..  However, they are taking a solid look at the new M10
Booker, which the Army has refused. The Booker lighter (38T) faster, and still mounting a 105mm gun tube.

   https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=new%2C+lighter+tanl+for+the+army&fr=yhs-infospace-010&type=ud-c-us--s-p-b4edpid2--exp-none--subid-none&hspart=infospace&

Now Ukraine has developed a system which they claim , allows an armored vehicles to virtually shed drone charges..  Latest iteration of the old see~saw again, I presume..

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0td45hNYpM8

It's the ols story since the first tanks showed up in about 1917.  And old see~saw  better tank..better anti tank weapon..  better tank..better anti tank weapon.

The new GMs should have some armor, since they still have to deal with small arms fire, .22 to .50 cal.

It seems readily apparent however, that the armor on today's Humvee is not adequate for today's weapons. However, it was helpful during the Iraq conflict !

My Marine grandson shipped to Iraq in 2005...just in time to help with the "surge"..  On the way they stopped at Rota, Spain..to pick up some of the first armored
   Humvees.

His first day in combat..and the crew dismounted, as they were fired on.  He climbed down from his 50 cal ring on top. Almost immediately an IED exploded..but it was the other side of the Humvee..  If it didn't have the armor up-grade..who knows.

..Another time, his Humvee was hit by an RPG..it hit the window opposite the driver..Grandson was up in the ring mount..the RPG stuck in the thick window lucite..then discharged.

Their translator was seated there..took his arm off, and spread it around inside...they went back to theFOB..with the RPG stuck in the glass.

I hope the military is making Chevrolet make some drastic changes to the Colorado. An oil field company started buying them for their pumpers and they're not holding up in this rough west  Texas ranching country. Pumpers that work my ranch land say the Colorado doesn't cut the mustard.

The Colorados the oil company bought and gave to the pumpers are 2024s and they're having lots of problems with'em. They're all 4x4s and they are constantly in the shop with everything from transmission to engine problems.

When Toyota had a problem with their frames they replaced them, when Chevy had the same problem they hid the information and the owner’s ate it. No more chevys for me…

local dealer sells chev, gmc and ram and im friends with the service manager and when i bought my silverado last year he tried to get me to buy a colorado. he said it had far less warantee issues than any truck they sold and that was the consensious of all the service managers in that chain of dealers. just to small for my taste. he did say to stay away from the diesel colorados though. then ill throw in the ranger/bronco. probably the most trouble prone and recalled truck in 20 years. want the US military to buy jap? ::)  wait, look here https://www.bing.com/search?q=troubles+with+2024+toyota+trucks&cvid=bb7a7f80b63c4bb39315ba347b6837cd&gs_lcrp=EgRlZGdlKgYIABBFGDkyBggAEEUYOTIGCAEQABhAMgYIAhAAGEAyBggDEAAYQDIGCAQQABhAMgYIBRAAGEAyBggGEAAYQDIGCAcQABhAMgYICBAAGEDSAQkxODUwN2owajSoAgiwAgE&FORM=ANAB01&PC=HCTS

id bet knowing our government they spent millions testing all brands and look what they chose. unless pete is taking money under the table from chev ill trust they picked what was best and i doubt they listened to chev haters or internet experts. i doubt hes sending our troops into combat with unreliable pieces of chit that will break down and get them killed. if the oil field guys are complaining everything someone complains about is on line. show me the money.

I worked for the government for 30 years. They don't test crap in such cases. They just buy from the lowest bidder.

Yeah, the Berreta 9mm pistol was a real well "tested" government success story as I recall. Agent Orange,  and Afghanistan burn pits "also well tested" before used. What Ive noticed is new "government innovations" are tested in the field, and "on the troops"..

there is nothing wrong with the berretta 92. i have one and it runs like butter and if i recall there was government testing. main reason it was replaced is the grips to big for female soldiers. hands down a more reliable gun then the 1911 it replaced and im a big fan of 1911s and know then as well as ANYONE here. so you think pete is risking our troops lives with a sub standard truck because it costs a grand or two less when they spend a 100 million on one fighter jet? last administration? no doubt, but it aint happening today. his goal is to give our troops the best equipment available for the combat scenarios they will face. i just dont buy hed sign off on a truck that the tranny was likely to fail while being attacked by a drone. but then some third hand (if that) talk from a texan oil driller that probably hates chevs and drove fords all his life is more credible and like i said you dont even have proof of that. you dont feel compelled to post real facts? maybe because you have none. show me the money. im out of this one.

expert on guns, expert on trucks and insider info on government testing. there is nothing wrong with the berretta 92. i have one and it runs like butter and if i recall there was government testing. you dont feel compelled to show facts because you have none.

Lloyd, I simply posted on the trouble the oil field workers were having with the Chevy Colorado pickups. I don't really care one way or another because my ranch truck is a 1 ton Ford, and their truck problems don't affect me.

As always,  your feelings are on your sleeve, and  according to you my "Colorado bashing" is just to antagonize you. We're both talking about a truck that neither one of us own. Its not a hill worth dying on. ::)

Last post here. Truck bashing?  ::) Its just a truck, and Chevy Colorado trucks don't have feelings. Good grief. ::)

Being a Dodge and Ford person I concur with cutting the mustard. Don't want to start a vehicle war but I never had luck with any bowtie product.

Your first post was about humvees, and then the next 7 were about rating Colorados.  Those 7 posts also didn't add much about your original topic.
