Marine boot trainee punches DI..
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RQpkSCW4tHQ ...Bad news; now he can face the consequences
..Back in the 1950s, during my first hitch, that occasionally happened, and usually ended up with the trainee learning a valuable lesson. Such was true for both Army and Marines.
That was in the old "brown boot" Army.. Then by the late 1950s a change came with the change in Class A uniform and wearing of black boots.
Apparently it was a societal change, where things were now settled legally, rather than with a "decision by knuckles".. It appears the Marines followed..but I'll let a Marine speak for that !
I served 2 separate enlistments , one starting in '55 then with the Cuban crisis, one in starting in '62... What a change and awakening for me.
As acting platoon Sgt., I had one obstreperous trainee that was habitually disruptive, seemingly challenging me. Field first suggested i challenge him back and teach him a short course in chain of command.
So, one day while marching iup the company street, he was particularly problematical, so I hauled him off to the boiler room of one of those old wooden barracks,
and gave him the opportunity to teach me something...
He quickly hung his head and declined...so back to formation, where he seemed much improved for the coming weeks.
When the word got back to field first Sgt He then informed me that it is good for me that the "lesson" I meant to teach, did not transpire...or I may have lost a stripe !
Times had changed, and his talk about doing it the old way, was just plain old bluster..
