Midget Mag????
« on: March 26, 2004, 04:33:04 PM »
Somewhere I recall a Marlin 22  Mag rifle about the size of the Papouse(sic). I thought that it would be an ideal pack rifle. Right now I have a Henry Mini Bolt that I carry in a sports chair bag (a perfect fit). It is a OK little gun but... at times you need a little more punch. Was this a real gun or just wishful thinking on my part?

Kjeff50cal, you are not imagining it. I do not have a "Marlin Midget Magnum" but I do have a small heavy blue canvas like zipper case w/ carry handles for one . It is emblazoned "Marlin Midget Magnum" in red script. I bought it for $10.00 at a gun store. It was used but like new. I use it to carry 2 barrels and a receiver from one of my H&R Handi rifles, I actually have my .22 Mag Sportster in it now along with a .17 HMR bull barrel. I often wish I could see, shot or even buy a real "Midget Magnum". However both my H&R Sportster in .17 HMR and .22 Mag are capable of shooting ragged one hole groups at 50 yards if I do my part. If you want a great deal with more punch you can buy a Sportster in .22 Mag for $103.62 plus Tax at any Wal-Mart. The process is tedious and cumbersome, frustrating even. I would suggest you try a local gunshop and pay a few bucks more but save yourself the aggravation. Try it I think you will love it, and it is small and light to fit where ever you want it. You can even order it with a "Youth Stock" to make it a bit shorter overall....<><.... (P.S.- the .17 Mach 2 is due out soon also!!)

Thank you for your repl(ies) (that is for the others that are sure to chime in). I saw a picture of another one in action... In my neck of the woods we have an Allegator Hunting Season & the perfered method of hunting is more kin to fishing with rifles. The hunter uses something similar to wreaker cable attached to a 1/0 hook with a raw chicken as bait. The baited hook is suspended above a "gator" hole along a bayou a certain height to prevent undersized gators taking the bait. When the gator takes the bait he (or she) is hooked and hunter (or is it trapper) comes along in a boat and literally reels it in and "quiets" it with a rifle shot. Well this gentleman was using a Midget Mag loaded with solid points as his "quieter"   . It seemed very effective. I don't want to go after that big of game, but if a stray racoon or 'yote came across my path in the woods.... 8)

Ken, now you make me feel bad, that case works just slick for my Handi's and Sportsters, I used it today to go to the range. Tell you what. If I do ever think of getting rid of it I'll try to get in touch with you. Have you looked at the cases offered by H&R at thier "store" site on thier website? They look good also....<><....   (Do you really want 2 Midget Mag's? would you be interested in some sort of a deal involving the Midget Mag you don't want and the case I have?)

I collect marlins and I should have explained this better. My best friend collects marlin too and I gave him my other 25mb for a old winchester he had that I wanted.I wanted an extra original case just to have.No other reason.Keep your eyes peeled on the auction sites and you will find one.By the way,you can reach me at kfwinkler@adelphia.net if you want to give up that special case.
