I'm just wondering for what reason do you  need a larger hinge pin ..

an Encore should not have a sloppy lock-up at all ..I have seen older contenders that has been used hard loosen up and benefit from a larger pin. I bought an Encore larger pin (   I   ) did not gain anything from using it but trouble changing barrels but a few years down the road if it were to loosen up I will have it on hand to try agin..
I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

Unfortunately, some Encores do have a sloppy fit. Mine did. I returned it to T/C and they subsequently returned it to me with a note saying it met factory specs. It took two months to get exactly what I had before back :(
A larger aftermarket hinge pin did the trick. My groups shrunk to under 2" with no more flyers.
I ended up with a 2X oversize pin. It tapped in with no reaming. The factory pin literally fell out when the forend was removed. Way too loose!
When your action no longer falls open when you pull the lever, you have a tight lockup.

I guss I have been lucky the three encores i have need the hinge pin tapped out and i use the hell out of pistol since i got it in 97 ..
I would think if you put a hinge pin in that makes you pull your barrel down to open it with in time that hard contact will ware the hole even bigger then as you use it alot the barrel starts falling open then you put a bigger pin in and on and on and on now you have a frame that only works one barrel....
I find there is too many people that think that they are so perfect if they cant shoot one hole at 100 yards it must be the gun or there must be some after market product that will fix the problem ... The after market feeds on the bad shooter and what happens you buy more and more stuff and you go to the range more and more and become a better shooter and not see that you got better its not the products.. I cant even start to tell you how many times i went to the range with someones gun to see what was wrong with it and it shot fine OR how many times someone showed me what i was doing wrong..

A loose hinge pin will also make the holes larger. They will also be irregular shaped. Believe me, I didn't want to go with oversized pins. I had to when the factory ignored my problem.
Oh yeah, I shoot pretty well. I find that I like it when my firearm out shoots my ability. I also find I'm disenchanted when I can out shoot my firearm.

Well I went through this with one of the gunsmiths at T/C and according to him all of you guys who have bought these oversized hinge pins have just wasted your hard earned money. He told me that the pin has nothing to do with it that if the barrel is moving on the frame it is the frame thats the promblem not the pin. He said that when the frames are having all the heat put on them stuff and then when they cool off some of them at times  will expand causing them to become loose. This is what I was told when I was having trouble with my 300 win mag barrel.
