Well I betcha it ain't as bad as it gets at Bobs house, and I betcha they don't go out in that cold weather without their coats and shoes like Bob does. I just betcha they don't, I betcha. And there ain't no such thing as wind chill either. 8)

I like 72.

I can take that.
17,  not so much.

92 would be better for me than
what it is now. At least I can function
and I have plenty of wash rags and
can rinse the sweat off

We only got about 1/2 in of ice and very little snow, got up to 24 today. As usual Lou had several thousand outages and anothe town near Ft Knox had 800-1000 outages. The oxygen is really the only thing that concerns me about losing power. We stay well prepared. Patty might try to get the mail tomorrow, we'll see if we can find a safe path. Car is really covered, won't be going anywhere. Hopefully we can go to Church Sun, iced in this pat Sun. The county brought a dump truck with the blade down our road this afternoon, boy the ice really flew. Time for bed, gnite. CHARLIE.  :D
Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB

I went out this morning barefoot, but the one renter had dropped the newspaper three feet from the door. ;D
-19 right now and we had a 1/2 inch dusting of snow last night.

One good thing is when it gets sub-zero the ice is frozen so hard, on the side walks, your feet do not generate enough heat for it to melt and it is no more slippery than pavement.
Dan you are up North in Texas now, how much colder is it there than where you were.

Bob says the wind only makes you feel colder than you really are and there is no such thing and if you put on enough clothes you won't notice that you feel colder than it really is. Well, duh, if the wind didn't make you feel colder than it actually is there would be no need for the extra clothes so I'll just consider it wind chill despite what Bob tells us.

"Wind chill" just the speed of heat transfer (loss).  And YES even inanimate items WITHOUT liquid on them cool faster when exposed to moving air.  Why do you think electronics and vehicles have fans on them...  Don't worry about EVER achieving the the ambient air temperature when they start in with "wind chill"; if your body gets to 60 degrees F you will no longer feel any cold...!

Went out and fired up the old ONAN EK 30 kw. It ran like a top and the propane tank is at 80%. Just in Case it's needed. That much fuel should get about four full days, running steady, ration it, about a week and a half maybe two. It's got one of those old Ford 300 engines on it. They don't make em like they used to.

Wrong, again.
Basic physics, heat migrates into cooler, not the reverse.

The first statement of the 2nd law of thermodynamics - heat flows spontaneously from a hot to a cold body

All fans do is move the air that is absorbing the heat  away so there is larger continual supply of cooler air for the heat to flow to, i.e. the migrates at a quicker pace.
That law has nothing to do with wind chill.

Windchill | Definition of Windchill by Merriam-Webster
: a still-air temperature that would have the same cooling effect on exposed human skin as a given combination of temperature and wind speed.

Well GOOOOOOLLY, then according to this wind chill chart, if you set a glass of water out side on 40 degree day, with a strong enough wind it will freeze solid.
Gee if it is 35 outside all you need is a 10 mph wind.
Wanna buy a bridge. :-*

No he said wind chill was the same as the first statement of the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
They are in no way related.
The wind chill farce only applies to bare skin.

That Texas Pan handle can make the Arctic look warm by comparison. Had to work up there, it was so cold my 3M 88 electrical tape was almost useless. And yes the wind was blowing. The old saying up there. The only difference between the Arctic and the pan handle is a barbed wire fence.

That is the worst thing about where you southern boys live, you can have a shirt sleeve day then  have have to drag along winter clothes when the sun sets because it get well below freezing.
That has happened up here, rarely, but it is not the norm.

I loathe some winters up here where it is warm, 32 degrees, plus or minus 5 , then cold, then warm, then cold, then warm....
You can adapt to continual cold just like you can to continual warm but  cold, warm, cold , warm  makes it hard for your system to adapt.

As a teenager and young adult, I did a lot of rabbit hunting when most people had enough sense to stay home.
The place I hunted mostly was southeast of home and when the temp dropped below zero, that northwest wind was brutal.
Luckily, there were some old barns and sheds on the way, and I could step into an old shed and have the sensation of warmth once I was out of the wind.
Inanimate objects may not be affected, but when the wind wasn't blowing on me, I was able to retain more of the heat that my body was making.
I was affected by wind chill when being affected by wind chill wasn't cool............... :o

This southern boy DOES NOT consider 32 degrees anything but COLD. So you are tough when it comes to cold. Come on down here in June, July, or August and we will hang out on the patio when it's 100+ degrees and discuss the weather. Give me a fan so I can have some windchill and I'll do just fine but you might be panting just a little.  ;D

Was bad today, barely 18, had to light the wood burning stove. Sunday is supposed to be really bad.

LOL, Yeah, in the summer my little shop gets too hot to work in, until I set a big fan outside the door blowing in on me, then I'm quite comfortable.  Windchill is nice in the summer.

In the movie and the book the Martian. He used a decaying lead lined plutonium fuel cell to heat his rover. To save on power. Anybody here have one of those just laying around lol. Heck put a fan behind it, free heat.

Ok, in Iceland everyone gets free heat useing home radiators. Geothermal heat, it really works.
A farmer in Kansas told me you drill far enough down it gets warmer.

No, he didn't.  He didn't mention the 2nd law of thermodynamics.  He said wind chill speeds the transfer of heat loss.  Which is pretty much what you acknowledged when you said "All fans do is move the air that is absorbing the heat  away so there is larger continual supply of cooler air for the heat to flow to, i.e. the migrates at a quicker pace."

I personally think "wind chill" is scriptural based. I don't remember where it says that, but I'm sure it does.

I spent a couple of years in the hole 1700 deep underground doing maintenance at Ker-Mac Potash. 80 degrees year round out in the mine and 50% humidity made it kinda warm. In the winter the shop was just about 250 feet from the incoming air and it was chilly but that never reached very far out into the mine. If you were out in one of the panels up at the face it was hot year round unless the miners had a vent bag stung up there where you had some ventilation. I would drink a half gallon of water and a lot of coffee every shift.

LOL, that is one reason I have zero desire to leave the Great White North.
In the nineties it was hot and dry up here, I spent one summer landscaping where it would be in the nineties, hitting 100 a few days, with 20 percent humidity or less for weeks on end, we longed for a rain delay day because we would be out screeding crushed granite on our knees and laying pavers from seven to seven.
BUT
In the past ten years, the drought is gone but humidity several summers has been continually 70 to 80 percent and , thank God, just one summer it was that humid with temp. continually in the higher nineties with a couple supposedly  hitting 100, for weeks on end.
That worst year, I would take two breaks mowing lawns that I could do without stopping normally in one to two hours, then we had a wind storm and I had no choice but to cut up and haul away large branches and part of tree trunks that came down at three different houses I was lawn keeper for,  and re-shingle part of a steep roof.
I survived and by the end I was taking only one break while mowing lawn but I will never complain about hot dry days again, they are A LOT easier to deal with than HOT-HUMID stuff you boys put up with.  8)
