Lol, when I mentioned " Feels like" it was only because a lot of weather forecasters have started using it.
I supposed it's now PC for wind chill, or its cold as he!! out there. Weatherbug used to use a number associated with temp and then a wind chill number.

Some stupid scientist liberal was on CNN last night saying these intense winter storms are a sure sign of global warming lol. Hey dumb azz, tell that to a nation nearly locked in ice!

Well Gee, yesterdays paper has a snippet that in 1899 on that day, it reached -2 F in Tallahassee Florida, if that is a sign of global warning, then by now the ice caps should be melted.

17 below zero here right now and sunny, but when I went out to get the news paper, I put on a nose retainer to make sure my nose did not fall off again.
Did not put on any pants on but put on my logger boots so my toes would not fall off, you know that wind chill can get you even when the wind is not blowing.
I wonder if you can torch a fart with -50 windchill?

Today south of Tulsa we are sitting on 6 degrees and they say it feels like minus 12 anyway you look at it it is rather cold. The thought of moving to Alaska and living in the bush went away and the age of 87 also helped guess I will just stay here. our problem here is a week or so ago we were near 70 degrees..

Up to 22 deg, yard, driveway still solid ice, under snowstorm warning, looks like a lot of snow headed our way. As long as we don't lose power for too long I have some extra oxygen tanks, plenty of food candles oil lamps, etc. CHARLIE.

Big ice storm here. 2nd day with no power. Trees still falling. Some roads that were clear yesterday are now blocked by trees.

When I lived up here the first time, we had 3 weeks straight where it stayed below 0 24 hours a day for that 3 weeks.

A couple of years ago we bought one of those fake fireplaces for the bedroom, because it looked so nice like a real one. Its a big bedroom. Turns out the heaters in those things really kick azz. Even in this weather it gets that room up to 80 in no time.

Those things only put about 1500 watts max. Don't know how they would keep a room warm when it's cold as you all are getting. Is this fake news?

I shall speak from experience only..don't want to argue..

"Feels like", is just TV jargon, and doesn't relate to actual effects.. However, I know full well any breeze or wind, does have a verifiable effect.
One can have waterlines under a building, such as a barn, studio, mobile home or enclosed addition, which is protected only by an electric cable. Then some very cold weather for this area comes along, say -30F.. The heat cable is well insulated andcan handle the situation. But if there comes a chink in the skirting, where wind can penetrate..it may well freeze up anyway!
Some hardy beef cattle can stay out in cold weather, or as a nearby farm to me with elk and buffalos...they can all do OK outside, but on real cold and windy days, if they don't have a windbreak, the farmer can suffer losses. Rain doesn't bother any of them..but if they can't get out of the way sub zero wind, they can be in a hurt !
I have noticed that on especially cold days, if there is wind about..the buffalos tend to head for the woods..or their shelter walls.... and they don't hear any "feels like" talk !

I recall, back when antifreeze was alcohol based, we would see cars with blankets over their hoods & grille, even if they were just parked and not running. Just the wind blowing may freeze them up!

Perhaps some can recall back when trucks had factory made canvas covers over their radiator grills, to prevent their freezing up! Whether the wind developed was external or developed by the fan makes no difference... if the wind has no effect...why cover the radiator grille ?

That is why people wear clothes and animals fur gets heavier in winter; heat leaves the body because of the laws of thermodynamics.
We used to have a paper plant whose smoke stack I could see when I drove up the alley; in winter I would look to see how the steam was blowing and in certain cases back my car in so the oil pan did not get to air temp. any faster than necessary. ( I did have to do the charcoal under car one winter as I still had 20W-20 in it which is not good below 10 below. I had failed to do ritual oil change to straight 10 that came with approaching deep sub-zero weather).

I also did (and am doing now) start the cars and run them till fully warm, i.e. the interior was warm.
I grew up with a garage which is a world apart from an open air parking lot; the ONLY thing I miss about shoveling off the parking lot, is the snow banks would get 6 to 10 feet high and block the wind from the North.
Snow blowers do not make snow banks.

An old indicator of temperature... With the old smoke stacks ..or a home chimney today.. On a still day, the colder the temperature, the more vertical the smoke.
On a very cold still day, the smoke rises straight up as a flag pole !

-11 right now and mine is straight up! Furnace has been working ot for better then a week now. Longest really cold snap in quite a few years. Snow is still below normal though even with the couple pretty good ones we got in the last two weeks. Usually by now the snow is up to the kitchen window but its not even half way there right now

3rd day with no power and all the food in the fridge has gone bad. At least we have gas logs that keep heat in the house. Many around here are not so fortunate.

Meanwhile, Biden shifts focus to gun control and flooding the country with illegals while my elderly neighbors freeze, wonder what to eat and how to get water from wells with no power.

About 24F here right now (11:50 hours)...not bad, but the storm is expected to move in at about1900 hours. then we will pay...
If it comes west to east across Lake Erie, we may get plenty of lake effect snow, since Erie is only about 9% frozen over.

Once again -19 up here but there is no breeze at all so without that wind chill I think I will take the garbage out without having a shirt on.

I have noticed that with the sun higher in the sky, regardless of sub-zero, the one half inch dusting of now we had disappeared from the side walk without shoveling.
I do not mind short winter days but I have often wondered what it is like living up at International Falls, or eve farther north yet, the Northwest Angle.
Sun would rise a little short of 8:30 and set a little after 4:00 plus up there -40 is a common temp. with sub-zero in Nov. and April common.

It has gained a whopping 1 degree today by my thermometer but the clouds aren't as heavy as they were early this morning. With a light snow cover and everything above ground covered with frost it's very bright outside even with the clouds.

It's 46 here now, heading to 19 tonight so they say. We've had rain today and very hard with high winds at times as the main storm moved over us. The freezing rain and sleet stayed well north and west of us. Any left over water from the rains will freeze tonight for sure.
