Son in Boot Camp, Hospitalized for Pneumonia
« on: June 15, 2013, 09:51:52 AM »
He's been there about a month, pushes himself real hard to do his best, and he pushed himself into the hospital, coughing blood, dizzy, dehydrated, etc. Hopes to be out Monday. His spirits are good, and he's mostly worried he'll get rolled back - he was selected for a 900 Division, and they're competitive for the Hall of Fame, and he's one of their top folks, so he doesn't want to let his guys down. I am certain he would appreciate any and all prayers at this time.

BTW, he either has already or is about to receive the familiar "Dear John" letter from his girl of the past 4 years. She let my wife know she was sending it, trying to do it right, and it'll be no surprise to him and might be for the best ... but it'll still hurt all the same.

I'm glad he's being taken care of, but doubly glad he's anxious on the bench and wanting back in the game. If all goes as planned, he'll graduate 12 July, and my ship is letting me fly off to see him graduate, and the recruit training command is letting me offer the invocation at the ceremony - happy papa!

Sorry to hearv your son has hit a snag..I've already prayed for him and will continue..
When you say "boot camp", Is that P.I., Pendleton or Great Lakes?  In any case I hope he grads on time and the unit makes the hall of fame..
I can remember back so many years ago..when in Army basic, one of the guys got a Dear John letter.  We kept our M1s right in the baracks then..and cleaning was daily..   When the rack was unlocked that evening..we cleaned our weapons, then several guys took their rifles out back of the baracks, where the offended GI buried the picture and frame of the girl..  Then by pinching his nostrils together, one of the guys "played" a passable "TAPS"..and a mock firing squad performed.  I think it eased the man's pain and gave him "closure".. ;)

Of course. later one of the guys dug the portrait up and deposited it in the dumpster..
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Boot Camp and OCS have something in common: they don't last forever, they just seem like they do.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

I can sympathize on the pneumonia. I'm getting over (I hope) a case of it right now.

There's a lot of BS and only a little science popularly recognized regarding the wheat issue. It's safe to say that if your only sources of information on genetically modified foods is the news, you've got only wrong information. Look a little deeper.

That's kind of what I'm saying. Epidemiological data doesn't show the pneumonia thing. It would if there were a connection. The science related to bees shows that pesticides have the greatest impact on bee colony decline.  The science just doesn't support these claims of bees being harmed by GM crops. This works just like global warming, where popular assumption and fact are two different things.

I read recently that the explosion of GM peanuts are responsible for all the peanut allergies today. Unfortunately for that assertion is that peanuts are not a GM crop.

A lot of people make a living being alarmists about this stuff.

Check out John Entine, Kevin Folta, and Karl Haro von Mogel. They are to GM what John Lott is to guns.

UPDATE: They're keeping him a few more days, and he's majorly disappointed. There's still a chance they'll let him finish with his Division, but a lot slimmer than he was hoping for. He's had intermittent access to email at the hospital, no phone access, which is how we're keeping posted.

I have; and suffice to say many countries have banned Monsanto GMO corn and cotton with the spliced in BT (Bacteria thuriengensis, an insecticidal agent) b/c they think it is responsible for bee decline, and secondly are blaming it for causing a spiking in pneumonia cases....I believe Russia is one of those countries and have told Obama to knock it off with pushing Monsanto on the planet....Obama being Monsanto's chief lobbyist.

Here is hoping your son gets over that pneumonia mess.  After suffering from that crap several times I know exactly how it goes.

Now as for the Dear John, that young lady is doing him a big favor.  I hope you point that out to him soon.  I day this because any female who would dump her beau as soon as he leaves home is not worth pining for.  No strength, no faithfulnesses, no dedication.
Help him to get over her and get out there and kick butt!

Thanks all for the prayers! He's been released back into his Division. No word as to his status (SIQ, LIMDU, ASMO, etc.) and don't expect to hear anything until we hear something ... if they do well they might get to use the phone on Sunday for a few minutes.

As far as the girl ... she's become more attached when she learned he was sick, still not certain how its going to work, but not willing to put him down clean. Succeeded in making him mad, which may solve it all around. We'd talked long about this relationship before he left, as I've been to Boot Camp 2x and Officer School once, and the letters are part of the drill. The longer this drags out the more its convinced him he needs someone who is all in; hard to find these days.

Glad he's doing better, TeamNelson.  In my bootcamp days some boys in my outfit came down with Spinal Mengitis, and one had to be discharged because of it.

Thanks FourBee; since we've not been notified of a change in his graduation date, we're assuming he is still with his Division. Hopefully they made the Hall of Fame and they'll get to make a phone call as a reward this Sunday.

'nother update: He's with his division, graduating on time! He was SIQ for pistol qual and the PT test, so he's making that up this week, and also missed the "exam" which he'll also make up this week, but he'll most likely do very well on all three. His biggest worry now is if he'll get to carry a flag in the graduation ceremony because he missed a practice day in the Hospital - he's carrying Mississippi :) He's still recovering, and appreciates everyones prayers. We're hoping he'll be back to great shape when he tries out for Recon Corpsman at A school in a month or so ... or at least strong enough to gut it out for the quals, and die later.

Much thanks to all y'all from my family and I!
