If you notice large cities are more liberal. They have large "inner city" populations that are dependent on welfare, food stamps, and government housing. Large cities are also dependent on a lot more services that government provides, such as mass transit, street clean up, garbage, water, sewer, power, and gas. The bigger the government, the more they provide, the more dependent people become. Safety is a big issue, thuse more police and gun control.
In the country, you may have your own septic tank, well water, firewood or propane gas. You have your own vehicle for travel, and you have varmits to contend with, so you have guns. You may also hunt or fish for your food, and have a garden. This is also true in suburbs. Far less dependent on government and government services.
City folks think only the government can solve their problems, because they feel helpless in the big cities. country folks solve their own problems.
Crime is higher in big cities because of several reasons. Most people don't even know all their neighbors and you are just one face in thousands. People can get away with more sin such as adultry because no one cares, because there is so many people. Lots of petty thefts can lead to more stealing. People can feel trapped so they might lash out at neighbors or family. Without self protection, purse snatching, robbery's are more common place. Drugs can be rampant because of people not really caring about what others do, or they just don't want to get involved.
In rural areas, most neighbors know each other, sometimes if one has a problem, neighbors come to help. Crime can be a problem such as break ins and burglery because of rural settings especially when noone is home. Usually people know each other, go to church, thus keep up with what neighbors need, are doing, and can self regulate problems as they arise, without lawyers or law enforcement problems. Not perfect, but a lot more freedom.
