It's past time for our US ammo companies to stop making ammo for government and start supplying US citizens who purchase ammo all year long. It's obvious to me that our government is cornering the market, driving up our ammo prices, and cutting off our supply. How could we coordinate something like this?

Take out the infrastructure of the big cities so that the "government forces" have to concentrate their defences there. Bridges, power, water as obvious points of simplest access? Biggest bang for the buck.

My point is I read of gunmakers not making any more guns for NYS because of safe act. Can't we get ammo makers to do the same nationally? It's the citizens who are the bread & butter for the ammo makers- At least it used to be. Our military doesn't need any more ammo.

Department of homeland security claims they are buying ammo in bulk to save money. Thats funny there. There has never been a government agency that was concerned about saving money. They must think we all just fell off the turnip truck.

Watermellon truck in the south. 22lr are a mistery to me as to why they are in short supply. Govn't is buying 40sw, 9mm, 223, 45acp and 308.

22LR is hard to find around here also. Since its cheep to buy a large number of rounds, I guess that is just what people are doing. I think many people are afraid of civil unrest, and I can't blame them. Along with the fact that communists in our government want to remove us of our arms, people tend to get a little panicky.

The last two times I was in Walmart I walked by the ammo case just to see what was in there, and there hasn't been a stitch of any handgun ammo there, including any 22LR. Just wonder how long this is going to go on? Or if any ammo makers have ramped up production. I haven't checked at the local gun shop for ammo because I really haven't been looking to buy any right now.

Just was talking to a guy at work today, who said he was looking to get a small handgun to carry. After some suggestions I asked him if he had any rounds for the caliber he was going to buy, knowing he wasn't a reloader. He said he didn't and was unaware of the lack of ammo right now. I think it finally came to light, that his new sought after handgun would be pretty much worthless with no ammo to buy.

100 yrs of training ammo? In one hundred years the ammo we use today will be obsolete! The military should not be shorted on ammo, DHS I don't think needs any ammo at all. We have a military to protect the country. We have FBI and CIA. 911 would not have happened if they had worked together and done their jobs right!

Went to the local China sales store today...........Bi-Mart. They are a chain discount store on the left coast. The ammo shelves would be completely bare, if not for a few shotgun shells. Where ammo had once been, were now boxes of clay's. He had more of them than shotshells.

The weekly invoice of 22 shells are now 5 bricks per week.They are not getting any center fire ammo.

The Feds do use .22LR ammo. The last 10 years I was in the AF we used .22LR in our M-16s for training. But I think there is something afoot this time, the Feds don't use that much. I think people are storing up for civil unrest. Luckily most people here in Alaska have been storing up for the last three years. Every pay day we have been going and buying two to four boxes of ammo. Many are well supplied. If things fall apart and supplies stop coming from the lower 48 we are prepared to take care of our selves.

Well, in a worse case senario, I can cast lead bullets, as I have about 25# of lead. I can make gunpowder, made it in high school. I can make gun cotton (early smokeless powder) if I can find some nitric acid. Brass will last about 10 rounds before it splits. Only problem is primers. I've heard you can take a primer, removed the anvil part with a very small screwdriver, use a flat punch to flatten out the firing pin dimple. Then reload the primer with the tips of three matches, carefully crushed into powder and pressed in the primer and replace the anvil. Never tried that, but it seems very time consuming just to make a primer. For hunting, one can used traditional black power with flint or a crossbow or long bow. Trapping and snaring is also a survival choice. Self defence is a whole nother matter. Can always buy a BP revolver or two, with a BP rifle. Also, they do make double BP rifles and shotguns. Right now shotgun shells can still be found as well as shotgun primers.

I just returned from a gun shop that suppies firearms supplies to alot of local dealers. I finally got 2 lbs of the powder I was looking for. He said the problem is that the people are buying and hoarding ammo and anything related to it. The people are creating the shortage not the manufactures. He said he can't even get enough holsters tokeep up with the handguns he is selling. He said he has see it before and in a few months, all will return to normal.

Can't speak for anywhere other than here in Charlotte N.C., but our biggest gunshop, Hyatts, has just gotten in powder to fill most all the empty spots and are selling primers by the thousand again, instead of limiting us to 300 at a time. They've been rationing like that for awhile. A box of 100 #200's is 8.99. No break on them by the thousand. But they're very available.

All calibers can be had in loaded ammo including .22lr, .223 and .308. Prices hover around a buck a round, but there's plenty to choose from.

Indeed several local Walmarts really are still receiving ammo, I didn't believe it because the shelves never change but a buddy confirmed that if I went early I could score on .22lr when it would come in. He said prices were still basically pre election\pre sandy hook rates.

I now think all is not lost when it comes to the ammo shortage, but its darned good to have panicked myself and gotten set up to reload. J

You have to have "strike anywhere" match's...good luck finding those now. I did find some at Dick's last year...but none since.

Who knows what the future will bring. We could have an entirely new weapon like a ray gun capable of delivering 100 shots from one electrical charge. Guns and bullets may be a thing of the past.

I agree with the idea of people suspecting a future problem and are hoarding ammo and reloading supplies. My wife asked me about the situation today and I put it in simple terms for her. If we heard the government was going to ban all peanut butter and maybe go house to house collecting it the public would make a run on every place that sells it and buy it all. Peanut butter would be hard to find.

people are stock piling ammo with the anticipation the government may crack down on ammo purchases. During the gas crisis in the 70's people were waiting on line to buy gas even though they had 3/4 of a tank. I have a friend who bought a thousand rounds of 7.62x39. The way he shoots he has enough for 10 years. I asked for a 100 rounds and he refused. He probably would have let me borrow his old lady then give up one bullet.

One reason for shortage in NYS is due to Andy"s "Safe" act. It calls for registering all ammo purchased here. I think it is due to take effect in Sept. Once they know what kind of ammo we are buying, they will know who owns what.

I see a big black market in ammo import to New York , they learned nothing during prohibition, fortunes were made importing spirits into New York . The Kennedy's come to mind.

I visited my local Cabela's a few weeks ago and very little to nothing was on the shelves. I went looking for reloading supplies and was disappointed.
While there talked to one of the reloading wigs and he told me the warehouse had all kinds of supplies but weren't sending to the stores while waiting to see how the laws and political climate panned out. He said they didn't want to ship powders to the stores and then have to ship them back. When shipped from the warehouse the truck trailers are considered as a sealed container but when shipped back would have to be "escorted" to the warehouse. Sounds kinda weird to me but possible.

I have mentioned this before, the govt is buying every round we don't without regard to caliber other than it is a popular round. The point being in May after depleting the public ammo supply for four months it would be a good time to start trouble (them not us). The ammo shortage is completely contrived by the govt. To what end use your imagination.
