It's a toss up between 2 rifles of the same make. Both are J.C. Higgins, built on FN 98 actions. Both have Bold triggers, set to 3lbs. Both shoot great, but the 270 shoots better. The only ammo that I've shot through it thus far that won't group 7/8 of an inch is Remington. The 30-06 is an 1" rifle. I've used both to take game, and used the 270 to take an Elk this year. The 30-06 however was in my hands when I made my best shot I've ever made on a game animal. I was climbing up through some Rimrock at 6500 ft and jumped a 3x4 Muley out of his bed, and just like that dropped him. It happened so fast I can hardly recall the shot. Right behind the shoulder, perfect shot. Both guns fit me great, and frankly, I could probably hunt the rest of my life and never need another gun with those 2.
But, I've got another, to rebarrel to either 338-06, or 35 Whelen.
