I live in the south, we have hurricanes quite regularly. FEMA IS ALWAYS LATE, PERIOD. Our national guard, along with churches who take up food, water, blankets, and clothes, get there first and take care of the needy. When FEMA went into New Orleans, they told the church people to go home, they were going to handle everything. Why, and why are our power crews, one from Huntsville, and one from Decatur turned back because they were not union? Stupid is as stupid does.
The reason Fema should be turned over to the national guard:
1) It can be called out by the Governor immediately and not have to wait for Fema.
2) They have trucks, MRE's, can handle security, and they have water trucks to deliver fresh water.
3) They have backhoes, doziers, dump trucks, and chain saws, to handle emergency clean up.
4) They also have diesel generators to offer power at locations for refugees, such as schools, community buildings, etc, even if they don't have power.
5)We really don't have to have FEMA. The military due to their strict military dicipline can respond much quicker.
6) The national guard here, lets charities go in to help, they just check things out.
Now, why do we need FEMA?
