22 mag to k hornet

I am having a hard time finding any dies.  Can hornet dies be reamed?  also does reamer come with a rim cutter?  Do I need a go no go or dummy cases?  Should have asked these questions prior to reamer being shipped.  also any preferences on dies for k hornet, can get rcbs for 65.00 takes 10 days.  thanks

I have the standard Redding 2 die set. I also use a 221 Fireball "S" type neck sizing die (the type that takes bushings), that I use for neck sizing my 22K Hornet. I use an RCBS 222 Remington precision seater (the type with a window in the side) to set bullets with. I have also used this same die for 223 and 221 Fireball besides the 222. It is a matter of adjusting the micro head for the case length used.

When reaming a rimmed case, there is no need for a go - nogo gages. The reamer will cut the rim, just cut it the same depth as the rim thickness. The 22 Hornet rim is .065" thick, so cut the rim .066" deep. When you get close, check often. If you ream it too deep, it will cause problems, so much so, that you may have to ream out to a bigger case size. I check the head space, by turning the case backwards and put it in the rim cut relief. Once the back side of the case rim is flush with the barrel, it is time to stop. Remember, once you cut it too deep, you can not put material back. You can rerrent the reamer and cut it deeper or thake it to someone with a lathe and cut the rim a little deeper, so error on the shallow side, if you are going to error.

K-hornet dies were just discussed, the modified Lee 22 Hornet collet die sounds like the best option to me.

A quick search on ebay turned up 5 K hornet die sets, all new, both RCBS and Hornady.

Ahh ha.  So the firing pin is off-centered.  Thanks Spanky, now I know.  It was probably in the FAQs but I sure couldn't find it.

got barrel reamed out today, I'm still not sure on headspacing.  Should rim be perfectly flush or just above?  gun locks up if I close it firmly. or do I need to go one more turn on reamer.

Flush or slightly below the chamber face by .001" or so just in case you happen to get brass that has a slightly thicker rim.

I fit 'tight', as in flush, since trying to get .001 often turns into 'more'. The barrel and action also works/seats in so working to min. clearances is my preference. I use a randomly picked 10 cases for fit and measure the rims to find the way they tend to run. After all is up and running if I hit a thick rimed case, it gets touched with a fine file on the inside of the rim, or just set aside.

Thanks forum friends;  I set it to tight or slightly above flush but closes with a little added effort over a empty chamber but not slaming it.  It shoots good.  look at previous post post of 22mg to k hornet update.  thanks again.
