YT, how old are you? I grew up in the 1950's and 1960's. Businesses were closed on Sunday, because most people went to church. Only business open were hotels/motels, some restaurants, one drug store rotated with others. Doctor's rotated house calls on weekends. Some but not all gas stations opened. A 12 year old paperboy could save his money and go down to the nearest hardware store and buy a .22 rifle. We could walk through our neighborhood on the way to the nearest woods to squirrel hunt. Christians and Christianity were respected and never a bad word against us. Holywood had good Christian movies, like The 10 Commandments, The Greatest Story Ever Told, and Ben Hur. Watch some of the old Rifleman TV shows. Morality was taught, and reverence to God.
What Happened.
1) An Atheist had prayer and Bible reading thrown out of school, even though we continued for several more years.
2) Liberals hijacked the Civil Rights Movement and turned it into a Welfare Plantation.
3) Hippies threw out the sanctity of marriage and every thing moral and right, with free love, drugs, dropping out of society, pushing for everything to be free.
In 1960, 50% of Americans attended church, blacks were entering the middle class without welfare, you could leave your doors open and unlocked at night. Without air condition in the south it was hot, and we only had a screen doors with the main door open to cool the house. Crime was low, divorce was low, there was more respect for the law and each other. Everyone I know over 40-50 all say things were better then. Most women didn't have to work, thus kids were better off, especially in summers and after school. More control and disipline. because, at least one parent was always there for them.
Today, we have to lock our doors, keep guns ready, be careful where we go at night. Divorce with all associated problems, single moms, kids without fathers, kids left to themselves. A Muslim family lived next door to us one time, but they obeyed the law of the majority and didn't try to change our laws. They were from Syria.
