It was dark, the homeowner had no way of knowing who she was or if she was armed or not. The home owner had every right to protect himself and his family by shooting her. He did good.
Had a friend named Marvin in Arizona, real nice guy. Worked with my wife and she really thought a lot of him. He was known not to make the best decisions all the time. Just stupid little things that people thought were funny. One night he got really drunk. Someone dropped him off at our apt complex. Marvin lived in the building straight across from us. Well old Marvin got his numbers confused and tried to get into the wrong apartment. When his key would not open the door, he just kicked it in. The occupant had a gun, but she decided not to use it. A man had been stalking her and she knew him. She was not afraid of the guy, but she was really angry with him following her. Thinking it her stalked she wanted to teach him a lesson. So instead of the gun, she grabbed a softball bat. She beat Marvin severely, breaking both collar bones, one arm, one leg, several fingers, and ribs. Along with a concussion.
Once the woman found out it was Marvin, and not her stalker she felt so guilty, she went to see Marvin everyday while he was in the Hospital. Marvin said while in the hospital, "Wish she had shot me, that would have been quick, instead of so much suffering'. When Marvin got out of the hospital, Marvin quite drinking. He said "One near death experience was enough".
