Hello,
I have several Handis and every one of the is fun to shoot. My second favorite is a 308 Ultra that has proven to be a very effective tool on deer, coyotes, and paper. Loaded with some 165 gr. SST's it is a pleasure to shoot, and makes a nice slick hole through an 8 in steel plate at 300 yards.
Now, when you can repeatedly shoot 3 consecutive 350 gr JSP slugs into groups that can be covered with a nickel, that is some big fun. I shoot my 45/70 Handi all year long, and make sure to keep plenty of handloads ready. I love to go down to my range and smash the steel plate at 300 yards. I have taken deer at over 200 yards a few times and shot a coyote through both shoulders at 210 yards. This is one very accurate rifle.
I have been considering trying some different loads, but I will likely continue pressing the 350's on top of a good charge of Varget since it will shoot 1/2 " groups at 100 yards. There is something quite satisfying about taking a $200 old fashioned push button single shot hammer gun and shooting a huge hole through anything you choose to aim at.
