Tikka T3 Lite
« on: January 28, 2004, 12:54:53 PM »
Just wondering if anybody has the new Tikka T3 Lite in 308 win and how the recoil from say a 150gr/165gr would compare to a Remington 700bdl walnut stock in 270 win shooting a 130gr bullet. The tikka seems very light but sounds like an awesome shooting rifle. I just don't need anything that kicks like a mule comparatively speaking, but I'm sold on the 308 in general.  :?

thanks.

I don't know if this will help you but I shoot a Winchester Md. 70 Feartherweight in a 270 and Sako 308  - The recoil from the 270 I can notice, but the recoil from the 308 is pretty soft.  I know this is backwards from what you requested, but I really believe the recoil from a 308 will be less than the 270
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

.270 vs .308 recoil is about the same.

.308 in a compact rifle will kick like a mule----but the Tikka is full size----so shouldn't be a big deal.

The only thing I have shot a 308 in is a HK91?93? whichever model it was. Not much recoil from what I remember but it had a heckuva blast.

I also noticed that the tikka t3 comes with factory rings, I wonder what size scope would fit in these rings, I plan on getting a bushnell banner or trophy scope in 3-9x 40mm? I think my current scope is something like 44mm obj dia.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 Win.  It has a Weave Grand slam fixed 4.75X on it, so it's not a heavy rig.  It kicks, but not too bad.  It has a good recoil pad and a good stock design, so I didn't notice any problems.

It has a good recoil pad .

Tom,

It has been a while since I have held a T3 in my hands.  Is the recoil pad on the T3 better than the WH?  If so, then how?  Is it thicker?  Because the recoil pad on the WH is, in my opinion, not so hot.

Thanks for all the great info. Now the hard part, all I have to do is decide between the Howa 1500 stainless synthetic in 308 or the Tikka T3 lite stainless synthetic 308 which will be hair pulling to say the least. But wally world and sports south are giving me plenty of time as neither has them in stock and doesn't know when they will be. So maybe in a few months I will have decided by then.

Wally world was wanting 404$ before tax for the stainless synthetic howa 1500 lightning in 308 cal or 332 in blued. I actually found a local gun shop that had the blued version in 308 for 309$ on sale, but  no stainless in stock. I am beginning to wonder if legacy sports even imports the stainless 308 version?

I found one of the last WH in.223
My son bought the new T3 lite in .223.
I shot mine first .5 moa.
He got his out last and I was thinking that skinny thing is going to disapoint him.Surprise, both shoot the same.I tried several brands and even the white box walmart he bought was shooting the same. Our first sako's.The Black Hills reloads and the cheap walmart shot best. Will try some of the high dollar stuff later. Both actions are like silk.I would be satified with either one.

This doesn't really answer your question, but I've found every .270 Remington I've shot to have a truly obnoxious recoil.  My Howa was much better.  But when I accepted the offer to try a fellow shooter's Tikka .270 at the range, I was shocked: felt almost the same as my .223!  While there are some differences in loads, barrel length, etc., here, it's clear to me there's a significant difference in Tikka's stock design that favors me, at least.

In my opinion, despite my fondness for the accuracy of my Savages, Tikka and Howa are the best guns for the money.  For me, the choice would probably come down to feel and price difference.
