I figure I am safe, even Doc can't get me with a one of his 39s when I am 700 miles away from his swamp.   He would have be like a german tanker and need a "ranging shot" before I would be in trouble. :o

Might as well get your money's worth....
My suggestion would be for the .22X50BMG.  I've seen the 50 caliber Browning round necked down to take a phonograph needle, but consider it just ever so slightly overbore.  Okay, maybe a .17 on a .378 Weatherby?
I told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. "Make your life go here, son. Here's where the people is. Them mountains is for Indians and wild men." "Mother Gue", I says "the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right. Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline

Darreld,

There was a display cartridge on an auction site a year back that was 17hmr/50bmg.  Price tag was too big for a conversation piece considering I don't like to talk only type. ;)

Doc,

Will you do a land contract on that property? ::)

Thanks to TopperT, I just finished putting together a nice 12 ga. Oh yeah, the barrel was lost in the mail for over two weeks.  We'd both about given up on it .....

I sold and mailed three Handi barrels to GBO members, last summer!  Took around 5 weeks time for those barrels to finally show up at their destinations, after the bastid postal-jokers parked em in the 'Parcel Post' truck till the truck got full enough to finally move it!   >:(

If you also used 'Parcel Post' Petemi, I wonder if a WARNING not to use that "service" would save some guys a lot of frustration!!  Frikkin USPS sure doesn't deserve the bizznezz!  8)

But new barrel selections, I'd love to hear about anyone who rechambered to a 7.62X54R!

Or ..... a rimmed 7X57mm?

Norma offers rimmed brass for the 7X57, I thought I might want to purchase some someday for a rimmed .257Bob in a T/C Encore.  Hey! .....  That could also be a 3rd suggestion!.

Why not a rimmed .257 Roberts in a Handi-Rifle!!??  ;D   (of course that wouldn't be cheap, from a HB .223 barrel to serve as the donor??  and those cases are $1.29 apiece)

ADDED:  those rimmed Norma 7X57 Mauser cases could be used to make rimmed 6.5 Mauser cases too, or rimmed 6mm Remington,  ..... or Ackley versions of any of the above!   :D    8)

Doc,

Land contract = property owner selling land and personnally holding the note, no bank involved.  Land contracts used to be popular in KY and TN but that was 30 years ago, not sure if folks still sell property this way.

CW,  Good luck shooting today.  I hope your .356 shoots as well as mine.

Yeah, lots of good ideas....especially Tom's 17-BMG ;D ;D ;D ;D I'm not in a rush to jump one way or another.  I guess I'll sit and watch for something to come down the pike.  That's how I got the .32-20 and others.

I'm back to three spare SB2s and used my last SB1 on a 12 ga. yesterday.  Don't know yet if I'll bother to replace it.  I like to buy my frames in Michigan FTF, so when I see one, I generally grab it.  Saves shipping and transfer and if nothing else, just rubs BATFs nose in it.

Speaking of shotguns, we were in Walmart yesterday.  They had a 20 ga. Pardner Pump, 21 inch ventilated rib and choke tubes, black syn for 147.  It'd be another Handi little truck gun.  I forgot to look to see if it was a youth or not.  I'm still asking myself why it didn't come home. For the most part, I hate buying guns in Walmart.+

UPDATE:  I called, gave them a credit card number and I'll pick it up this week.

The barrel that I have been thinkin of doin for a while is a 480 Ruger.  Green Mountain has barrel blanks at a reasonable cost and would make a nice liner barrel epoxied in a 12 ga. Pardner barrel.
It would have to be a shorty as the blanks are only 21" but the 480 Ruger is a cut down 45-70 case with the rim turned smaller for wheelguns but in a handi the 45-70 ejector would work fine as is.
I was also thinkin of making a full length version with a 45-70 case and .475 bullet but just have too many other projects going on now to order stuff for it now.   ;)    Jed

Just steal Patti's 22 mag barrel and do a 218 Bee , it fits very well between the Hornet and the 223 Rem. that way you don't have to hotrod the hornet or down-load the 223 .  ;D

The 218 is a nice lil caliber. If I did that I would do the Mash Bee. It's a sharper shoulder and IIRC. O body taper.

I was. Dry tempted to Ackley the hornet but the damn thing shoots great I don't wanna touch it. If I came across another hornet barrel you can bet your last dollar I would ream it!!!

The .44 Bodeen.  Pics and details to follow shortly but it meets the standard of a "real" cartridge because there is fireformed brass. ;D ::) 8)

One of the first barrels I bought here was a 223.  No idea what the heck I was thinkin' as I don't have brass, dies nothing for a 223.

I really, really wanted to re-chamber to 219 Zipper but it won't clean up a 223 chamber.  :(

So we did the 225 Win.  Very small rim but it's there.  Worked up a 60 grain Nolser partition load that goes 3229 fps av.  I couldn't get it to group smaller than 1/2 inch or so at 100 though! :)  I'm not great shot but that little puppy made me look good.

Pete,
What about a 35 Greevy Express? It's a 45-70 necked down to 35 cal. In a Handi I would expect it to nearly duplicate the performance of a 35 Whelen and you get a rim to boot. I think a 357 Mag barrel would be a perfect platform for a rechamber.
