It's Here!
« on: February 20, 2011, 05:04:51 AM »
Received my Cassic Carbine 45 Colt from CDNN Thursday. What a nice little gun. My first, but not my last Handi. I was really amazed at the quality machining of the bore. Miror bright and clean. I have bought many new firearms from many different makers and many did not compare to the quality of this one. Want to send it in for a 20 ga vent rib barrel but have some reservations about the arrangements to do so. See my other post this a.m. about this. Fitted the butt stock with a lace on leather recoil pad with a fitted firm foam filler inside. Should be very pleasant to shoot.

Congrats on the new Handi. The 45LC is the best looking rifle they make IMO.
You forgot one thing though...PICTURES ;D ;D

I don't know if you are into reloading but to really get every bit of enjoyment out of the little gun is to reload for it.

All I use is a Lee Classic reloader and I've loaded it mild to wild!

I haven't had mine that long and I'm still working up loads but I've found some fun loads using lead cast bullets and Trail Boss powder that are just too much fun to plink with and are a dream to shoot, and cheap.

I've also worked up a load for my hog hunting using a 300 grain Hornady XTP jacketed hollow point and IMR4227 which not using a chrono I'm guessing around 1400 ft. per sec. which group at 1" at 100 yards, if I do my part.

Even with my "hot load" it's in my opinion a very mild recoiling rifle, but then I've shot my 45-70 with some loads that killed on both ends of the barrel.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Yep!  Didn't know it but, I wasn't really a Happy Handi Man until I got one.  Only shot it once but very mild recoil.  Just got the dies and stuff this week.  I agree it seems the nicest factory Handi.  Try to find a compact scope if you use one.  Big ones overpower the gun.

So welcome to the BC club.

Yep, I reload. Trying to find Lee dies locally, no luck so far. Friend is donating some cast lubed  230 gr bullets to get me started until I can get some cast with a borrowed mold. Have Leupold VXII 1 to 3? power shotgun scope (very compact) that I had sent back to Leupold to have a finer reticle put in. Should work well on this. Anxious to make it go bang.  Will send pics when I can get the camera thing straight.

That Leupy should be just the thing!
FWIW, you can load 45LC with a lot of 45ACP dies; it amounts to a bit more that neck sizing and will seat and crimp fine (dont use hardly any crimp to start). Only thing you need is the 45LC shell holder and you are go to go.
