Folks I recommend everyone update your passwords.
DO NOT USE PASSWORDS LESS THAN 8 CHARACTERS and use a mix of UpPeR aNd LOweR CaSE MixeD witH NuMberS like This:  ThiSis1ExamPLe
But make sure you write it down somewhere just incase:

Please note that all of these were just from one IP address and there are about 50 - 60 IP's in this attack so far and I dont think it is going to stop anytime soon with the new server being as fast as it is.

Also adding special characters like ?!$@(*@#(  will help make a password stronger,  most hacking programs usually only check for letters, some of the more advanced ones can run numbers and letters, but usually when you get to letters numbers and special characters its not worth it for most hackers.  And don't use personal information, or information that can be found on your profile, or from other locations.

Password MUST contain UPPER & lower case letters and at least 1 number
example 1:  MyNewPassWD2
example 2: GbO2011PassWD
oh yeah and it must be 8 or more characters long and can not contain part of your user name or email

As a result of this attack and the fact that it seems a lot of moderator accounts are being attacked and the damage someone could do logged in as a moderator I have gone thru the moderator list at length.

All moderators who have not logged in during the last two months were removed as moderators and their name removed from the forum so as to make those accounts less likely a target.

If you see this and are one of those who is no longer a moderator and really want to be and promise to remain active you can contact me AFTER you have gotten a new password and we'll discuss putting you back on the moderator list. Below is a list of names of those I removed as moderators due to lack of activity and/or the fact their accounts have been heavily targeted and they aren't posting to their assigned forums anyway.

No one has said the site is not properly secured. It is as secure as any forum site you visit and far more so than most. Putting very much personal info on the internet is an invitation for someone to take it.

All we are saying is that if your password isn't a strong one your account can be compromised by the hackers currently attacking us. So far I don't think they've accomplished anything but clearly are trying hard. No server connected to the internet is 100% safe from hackers. Even the Pentagon servers get hacked from time to time and they likely have the strongest security measures in existence.

Do you have some problem with selecting a new stronger password?

I have no problem making a stronger password.  My thought is that, if I had a water leak in my house, I would just turn off all the water until I could find a solution to the problem.  A few minutes or an hour off line until the source of the attack could be identified and blocked would be a safe approach, if the server was not connected to the internet the attack would stop and no passwords would be at risk.  Not everyone is monitoring their email 24/7so that they can take individual action.  Larry

Appears that IP address has somewhat of a history of trying to hack forums.  My son-in-law, the geek, tells me the real target is the server rather than individual info.
