CARBINE 4595 .45 ACP
« on: December 17, 2010, 09:37:08 AM »
RAN down to the local gun store house (Shooters) here in Jacksonville and scooped up a new .45 ACP Hi-point carbine...$279.00 retail...Hi-point has done an amazing job redesigning the stock. Mine came with standard iron site 9mm carbine owners will be familiar with but also
came supplied with folding forward hand grip. Looks well made and finished and BAD....(in a good way).
Could barely wait to take it to the range yesterday and experience .45ACP from the shoulder. BLAZED through a new box of Blazer hardballs perfectly with no hiccups...I only wish I had had the two other magazines I just ordered as accessories from Hi-Point accessory store. I was always impressed with the operation of the little 9mm carbine and its quality and value. Just as impressed with the 45. It was worth the wait to get one..Now I'm glad I did not spring for the 40 cal in my impatience. I predict that the 45 will kill sales of their 40. That will be sad but I think once the word gets around about these Carbines, it just won't make sense to buy a .40 when a .45's available (Don't get me wrong, I love the .40 as a handgun caliber)...anyway, the sights were off outta the box but the group was right on at 50 yards, giving me a bunch of really big holes in a 2.5 inch circle. I thought the cheek piece was a little rough which acted in conjunction with surprising vigorous recoil (despite the shock spring butt plate system) to beat up my cheek bone a little..a little 220 grit sand paper should fix that up.

Definitely a lot of fun to shoot and you feel like you are really throwing some lead down range with this baby..

glad to hear that. I'm going to a gun show tomorrow and that is one of the ones I'll be looking for ;D I too have been putting off buying the 40, waiting for the 45. hopefully I'll be able to find one without the price being jacked up. Does it have a rear peep sight?

A .45 ACP carbine followed me home from a gun show a couple of weeks ago.  $279 plus a spare mag and tax.  Flawless functioning right out of the box, loves ball ammo, groups to point of aim at 25 yards. Well worth the money!

I tried to send a pic and was told it was oversized; resized it and will try again.

This is the new .45 carbine with sights removed and Sight Mark optic installed.  Also has a two-mag holder I got from the factory for $10.  Looks kinda clunky with it, and seems like it weighs a pound more, but WTH.

It groups one ragged hole at 25 yards, with a grouping of BIG ragged holes, if you get my drift.  This is a first-class piece of machinery that has found  a permanent place in the inventory.  I've only been able to use it in the backyard backstop, haven't been to the farm for longer-range shots.

Does anyone have info on higher-cap mags?

How does it work with hollow points?

The 45 HiPoint is on my list.  Not "if" but "When"

I disagree about the 45 killing the sales of the 40 carbine.  People will buy whichever gun will feed on the auto pistol round they are stocked up for.  Think of this: 44 magnum lever actions haven't killed the sales of 357 magnum carbines.  Guys buy one or both, depending what suits them.

I see no down side to Hi Point having carbines in the three popular auto pistol cartridges.  It's good for them and good for the shooting public.

I have noticed that there aren't many good choises for auto  pistol cal carbines that are priced what they are worth.  The 9mm AR or HK offerings are way over priced.  A grand or more to shoot 9mm in a rifle?  Not worth it.  No reason a blowback 9 mill should cost the same as a gas operated rifle caliber gun.  The MP5 clones are really nice delayed blowback guns, but way over priced.  There are some semi auto clones of classic sub machine guns, but they are more of a range toy for those of us who can't afford a real Tommy gun or a real Uzi.  I know I want both, but it isn't happening.  There are some really good offerings in the revolver rounds.  Marlin, Rossi, Henry and other make guns you can really use for reasonable money.  That doesn't seem to carr over to auto pistol shoulder guns.

The HiPoint is one of a real short list that costs what it's really worth to send pistol rounds down the pipe from your shoulder.

jlwilliams:

I am short on hollowpoints right now, need to sit down and do some serious reloading but have been too busy in the yard and garden.  I did mix up a mag of Lawman 230 HP, two different weights of Silvertips, and a couple of Gold Dots and ran it through the carbine with no hiccups.  Most of them grouped a little lower than the point of aim...higher velocity?

I agree with you that having these things in more than one caliber is a good thing...the only reason I don't is that I've thinned my inventory down to where I only have to reload for the .45 ACP and Colt.  Found a slug that everything I have in both calibers will shoot, although I also shoot a Keith-style 250 in a BH and Puma combo for feral hogs.  OTOH, when I get some spare cash, I may get a carbine in 9mm and a case of cheap ball JFTHOI.
