new DHDP trap/has anybody used them yet
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:40:19 AM »
Bought a dozen of these new DHDP traps, got a few set out.  Just wondering if anybody else is using them or has had any success with them.  Your opinion.

Sorry don't think I have even seen that one particual DP before??? How do you set that one?

I have couple dozen grizz traps and a couple of the old original ones they called DPs and an egg trap. I could post a picture of egg trap I've never used it. The original DPs were pricey I think I gave $25.00 each back in 1997 and they were hard to use. I only ever caught a couple coon in them as they needed a special tool to set and it was hard to get the coon out of the trap once you had him. I bought a couple to try then set them a side for a 1 1/2 coil.

Mike, you have to remember--I picked your traps up when they first hit the market--no mass advertising like other dp-s.The majority of most trappers do not even know what they are.

10-4, Tom, gotcha.

Here we go, we will give it a try.

Mac, these are the new DHDP traps just coming out; I bought a dozen from the Bogmaster to try. So far, so good.  Haven't caught anything yet but things are slow in southern Kentucky.

These traps are awesome.  They are small, sturdy and you can carry a lot of them.  As you can see in the pictures, they are easy and simple to set.  The front of the trap has a door.  All the working parts are inside of the trap so nothing will freeze up.  Take your index finger, push down on the door, tip the trap over and it sets itself.  There is a small trigger inside the trap that you can set it for a normal set or a hairtrigger.  Turn the trap over, put your bait or lure in the bottom of the trap up against the trigger, then turn it back over and the front of the trap, shove a marshmallow down there and be careful not to set it off.  Stick it in the ground, stake it down and you are good to go.  The door on the front of the trap won't hurt you if you catch yourself but is strong enough where it will definitely hold a coon. The harder the coon pushes in, the stronger it holds.

I thought the opening of the trap was a little small for the coon to get his hand in it but like a friend told me, if he can stick his hand in a crawdad hole he will definitely get his hand in this.  I like these traps, so far so good.  Had just wondered if anybody else had experience with them.  Click on pictures to enlarge.

I bought a dozen of the traps like that that Clint Locklear, I think, came out with.  Mine look a little larger than the one you are showing but may not be.  I have not set them yet but I thought maybe the bait went under the washer/trigger.  I thought that the door was to allow you put the bait back there under the washer.  I will have to look it over better.  I like them.

Shoot, as cold as it's been around here we still don't have that problem!  This was taken last season but it was the same this year through November when I pulled my trail cam.

I was thinking of putting out a set or two when next I go down to pull my stands.  Hence the interest in those traps.
