shorties are done for now, PICS
« on: August 04, 2010, 05:43:04 PM »
so anyway awhile back i got myself a 30-30 and a .22hornet with the idea of making some "jeep" guns out of them, the shorty shotty is still in the works btw.

anyway I finally got them done, the 30-30 is sporting BC stocks, a fixed 4x scope and a nice 18" barrel.

THe hornet is 16", has a cheap ol 3-9x on it (for now) and is wearing a new ATI collapsable stock. I know many of you dont like them, but ill tell ya, this one seems to be build very well, not much wiggle at all, and looks and feels better than the last POS ATI that I had.
decided to give it another go after seeing on on a shotgun at the toy store the other day.

Going out this weekend to "break em in" on some early season coyotes that seem to be causing a bit of a problem. and then of course the skunks are definately in for it this weekend if I smell/see one.

Please do a check on this one.
I thought I read somewhere that even though a 16" barrel is legal there is still an over all lenght that must be maintained.
I may be mistaken.
If so, sorry.

My Hornet is just like that and it fits in a saddle bag real good and shoots great. If it was illegal I can assure you I would be locked up somewhere because many a cop saw it when I was rideing and wearing colors, they would have jumped at the chance to get a nasty biker but alass I still have it

It fits in your saddlebag? Got a pict? I have wanted to ride to the range, but didn't want the rifle on my back.

"A nasty Biker".......never met one :D  It seems to me, today, there are a lot of nice not so old and older retired men and women out there riding very nice bikes.  Bikers in general have always been among the friendliest folks I've met.

Some cops have attitudes, a lot don't.  We, here in Mackinac County Michigan are blessed with the best Sheriff and deputies I've encountered anywhere.  Yes, they maintain the law, but they RESPECT people.  They defend and protect, not harrass and intimidate.

The Under Sheriff lives just down the road from me.  A few years ago, a neighbor called in a complaint about me shooting at 6 a.m.  He went to the neighbors house, and then came here.  It was and hour after dawn, and I was shooting legally.  We enjoyed a cup of coffee together and visited a while.  He returned to the complaining neighbor's house, stayed a minute or two, and left.......end of problem.  Good Cops.

Getting back to the thread, most guys here on bikes and 4 wheelers carry their rifles in quick opening cases, unloaded and mounted to the bike with ammo right at hand....all of which is legal.  We cannot ride around with a loaded, uncased firearm off our own land.....and we've had some issues with that in the past.

Firearms Laws of Michigan 750.227 (2)  "A person shall not carry a pistol concealed on or about his or her person, or whether concealed or otherwise, in a vehicle operated or occupied by the person, EXCEPT in his or her dwelling house, place of business or on other land possessed by the person".  Our Sheriffs department interprets it that it is fine for me to throw my Handi shortie .357 Max loaded on the seat next to me and ride out back in my pickup....as long as I am on my own property.

Seems you have already checked it out.
Just didn't want someone getting caught because they didn't know and I wasn't sure.

DadGum it!  >:( I was perfectly happy with my newly aquired Handi - and you post pics of that "shorty" Hornet. I swear - I will not succumb to the (already warned of) addiction.. I won't. I'm not coming here anymore. I'm not.. Boy. that thing would be "perfect".. I'm not. . I swear.  ::) ;D

Very cool Kal.. Hope they work out for you.
