I've got over 80 rifles in my vaults. Almost everything from .17HMR to a 338-378 Weatherby. Anschutz, Mausers, Rugers, Savages, Remingtons, Marlins, Parker-Haile, T/Cs, H&Rs, and Weatherby. Everytime I go out I run the risk of running into dangerous game. I don't mean animals that might attack when shot, or cornered. But animals that will actively hunt, kill, and eat you. In many cases they have no fear of man, you are just another meal to them. Ask Dand, he'll tell you the same thing.
My go to gun 75% of the time is a NEF Handi in 30-06. My second gun is a T/C TCR in .338 Win Mag. Both single shots. After that comes a Ruger M-77 Mk II .338, a Remington 600 in .350 Rem Mag, then my Weatherby for long range shooting. When the wife and I go hunting in Tennessee, we carry a matching pair of Remingtons in 30-06. Here at home the wife carries a Mauser in .35 Whelen, Sky carries a Savage in 30-06.
Many people think carrying a single shot is suicide. Well the first shot is the one that counts, there should be no reason for a second. In over 40 years of hunting I've only really needed a second shot twice. Both times was my fault, I did not do my part properly. If attacked and an emergency situation, your only going to get one shot anyway.
If I had to pick only a few to do me for the rest of my life, My NEF 30-06, Ruger .338, Remington Nylon-66, and my Stouger 12ga over and under. With those four guns I'd be happy.
