Chemo/Radiation Treatment
« on: March 21, 2010, 01:33:23 PM »
I made it through the first week of Chemo and Radiation treatment with no problem.  I didn’t really have any idea what to expect, I was told the accelerated Chemo schedule would make me sick, nauseous and may cause some stomach problems, I experienced neither.  The radiation is focused primarily on my left upper chest and throat; it did cause a sore throat, but did not alter my eating at all.  I have three more days of Chemo this week then will be off for three weeks and begin the process again.  The radiation will continue for a total of 48 days, about 15 minutes each day.  The only down side to the treatment was it made me very tired.  I had to have a nap each day afterwards, and then had problems sleeping at night.  I faunally resolved that I was bring this on myself and stopped the naps, started sleeping at night and things are better in that area now.

I feel very fortunate that my state of health was fairly good prior to the discovery of the cancer; I think this will make it possible for me to beat this thing.

A special thanks goes out for all the “Knee Mail”. It helps.  Keep us in your prayers. ;)

rockbilly,

I have some experience with cancer, my wife had melanoma and various surgery and treatments. You're on my prayer list until you beat the cancer. God bless you and your family.

ROCKBILLY. Thats Great news. Mom could only take 1/2 the treatmen and she's remained at 90 % the last 6 months. You should beat that easily. More prayers sent. Charlie.  ;D ;D

The knee mail (Prayer) always helps!
My wife just completed her second Chemo treatment, and they were too hard on her. She had two more scheduled, but opted out on them.Six weeks of the Radiation ahead.

I'll add you to my prayer list..............................NW

Rockabilly:  I had bot at the same time also, the Chemo I was on 24 hrs a day for a week then off for a week then back on 24 7 for a wk theis went on I lost count, the Radiation was everyday for 8 weeks and it got to be the worse, it is a camulitive (sp) thing the 1st few treatments were like  going for a x-ray then it starts madding up in your body andd gets un pleasant.   Stay with it and you will be just fine.   Jim

Good luck. I had chemo for 5 weeks and 35 radiation treatments to my left tonsil. I was strongly advised to have a feeding tube installed in my stomach and I did. If I hadn't had that tube I would not be here. I couldn't eat 1 bite for 5 weeks, and lost 35 pounds. The first few treatments were a piece of cake and they kept getting harder to go to, but I knew I had to endure for my family. That was 2 years ago this month and I have been cancer free since. Hang in there it is rough, but it can be done. The payoff is great. Prayors.
