Man you guys have me pumped up. My friend and I just ordered two .357 combos and are getting them reamed to the "max". Also ordered the Boyds camo laminate thumbhole and camo fore end from H&R. I think they are going to be a sweet little deer rifle. Getting ready to start ordering our reloading supplies as well.

My 22 inch maxi shoots moa.  This new one is "on paper", but I can't get to my 100 yard target yet.  I Stuck the 4WD pickup twice out there yesterday trying to fix fences.

Does anyone know what the optimum barrel length for a .357 Max would be?

I wouldn't think a pistol cartridge would need more than the 22".

I am attracted to the idea, but cant help but wonder, in a lead bullet load (does anybody else shoot them?) do as well, or close to that?
Also, it seems that the .357Mag case is plenty big enough for the smokeless powder we have so why not just seat out a nice long, heavy bullet in that case and load to similar velocity that you are getting with the Max chambering? I know pressures will go up in the 'shorter' case, but there must be a practical tipping point for performance.
