Here are the drawings for 445 Super Mag and 444 Special...

You could just get the 500 S&W Mag handi as that has a case length of 1.625".

Thanks again Tim .

I'm not trying to be argumentative .

IF ... I had shell casings here in those calibers I'd measure them myself .  When I worked in the sporting goods store I could pull a box off the shelf to measure and figure things out .

Thanks again

....it's just that ... well ....you can see how there is conflicting information out there online and it gets confusing .

I thought I'd ask you as you seem to know .

I really like the ..445 SM idea .

IF ... a .445 SM were a ,444 case cut down it would eliminate shooting .44 spl and .44Mags .......everyone  seems to agree that you can shoot them in a .445 SM ; so it must be a lengthened .44 Mag case I guess .

The 444 isn't a lengthened 44mag, the 444 diameter is bigger than a 44mag, there's enough difference that shooting 44mags in the 444 may result in ruptured brass, 445SM is much closer to 44mag specs and works fine with 44mag and 44spl ammo, there are a bunch here that have rechambered their 44mag H&Rs to 445SM.

I found this pick a while back. This 44 mag was fired in a 444 marlin no by me though.

.44-40 will work in a .444 I'm told.

You could make some powderpuff loads in the 444 though.

Powderpuff loads in a .444 don't help me as Indiana has a 1.625 " 0AL case length maximum which is why I'm now considering the .445 Supermag conversion like Tim suggested  after my first post  on this thread .

It's seems to be the ideal solution for me .

..... and I don't have to do anything the first season , I can use it as a .44 Mag if I want .

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it, the 44-40 has a bigger. thicker rim.
