handi 30-06 loads
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:24:30 AM »
I just purchased a brand new 30-06 handi.  scope base extension and an extractor.  I am looking for some places to start for reloading with 125 grain and 150 grain bullets.  Any information would be appreciated.  Also has anyone switched over to the limbsaver recoil pad? If so how did it work out?  Thanks in advance

Mine liked 165 gr. Ballistic Tips and a load of H414 a couple grains under maximum. You will probably find that 1 grain of powder will be the difference between a really good group and a 2 1/2 inch group.

Can't help ya with the '06 loads, but I have several Limbsaver pads on both synthetic and wood stocks, they're my favorite.  ;)

Those prefits that are close are listed in the FAQs, but the small grind-to-fit works well after a little sanding on the belt sander.  ;)

My 30-06 (and 30-40 Krag) shoot well with 150-220 gr. cast lead gas check bullets driven by 16.0 of IMR 4227. I could drive them faster, but these do all I need and are easy to live with. I dont use jacketed so I cant help there.

My handi 30-06 seem to favor IMR 4350 and IMR 3031
3031 with 165 hornady SP 44.5
The picture in IMR 4350 165 grain Remington core-lock 100 yards from the bench both loads about 20 thou of the lands
