Limbsaver recoil pad??
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:01:12 PM »
Did H&R ever install the Limbsaver on their rifles straight from the factory?  The reason I ask is that I just bought a 45-70 Handi from a friend who says he bought it new and never shot it or did anything to it at all.  It has a grind-to-fit Limbsaver pad on it, but otherwise looks to be unfired and in new condition. Of course, he didn't have the box for it. BTW, I got it for $170. :)
The only prefit Limbsaver pad I have ever seen was fitted perfectly to a synthetic stock, does Limbsaver make one that fits that well to a palletwood stock? I don't have a sander to fit a grind-to-fit pad myself.

Now that I have a 45-70 Handi, please feel free to PM me with load data. I will also be conducting searches here for info myself. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

mine says NEF!  I just bought it so maybe it was produced before the marlin consolidation or maybe they just don't care about the pad.  decent pad though.

Plus 1 on that zoner, beats the heck out of paying the $31-$32.00 the other stores want for em.  The one close to me only carries the small, wonder why they don't have the med?  DP

I put a medium on my synthetic stock which came with a NEF stamped buttpad (some have different factory pads) and the sleevepad fits very tight.  I think that if I had a small forced onto it that the sleeve would split under recoil.  that said this one is still possible a bit too tight, I'll be oiling it just in case before I go into the snow with it.

My new Handi .357 mag MC plastic stocks, has a very nice rubber sponge recoil pad. It is stamped H&R. It is a smooth finish type and about  an inch thick. Not sure who made it but I want a couple more. They should put this one on some of the big guns. I am sure I will need it with the .357 ;)
