Contender Scope Base SOLVED duhh
« on: November 07, 2009, 12:50:23 AM »
I know this is somewhere on the site. But I can not find it. I did look in the FAQ, could have missed it, but dont think so.

I have an early model Contender with a .357 max 14" bull barrel. It has Iron sites. I recently bought a base from a forum member. Problem is the 4 base holes are spread out so far, there is no way it will mount in the holes under the rear site.  ::)

Question is; do I need to have new holes drilled for a 4 screw base? in order to mount. Or is there a direct bolt on base for the barrel?  ???

Shortly After I posted this, I got the Contender out. I get nervous when I need to work on some guns, this is one of them ::)
Anyways, I got the mount out and compared the holes to the side of the rear site. Duh, So I pulled the rear site with shaky fingers. TA DAAA there is 4 holes under the site. And they do match ::).
 I now have a scoped T/C Contender  8)
I guess I should have pulled the site to begin with, like I said, was just scared to work on my baby ::)

Thanks for your help.

Lonny  ::)

Hey Lonny,

I wouldn't have new holes drilled in your barrel unless absolutely necessary.  Call T/C and see if they know which base will fit.  And, if that's the scope base you bought from me, return it and I'll be happy to refund your money.

Maybe you could check the numbers on the base and see if it is the correct base for a Contender.  Maybe and Encore?

Mistakes happen, but if the barrel is factory, I wouldn't know why the hole spacing would be messed up...

Good-luck...BCB

I sort of wondered about that as the rear sight has to be removed but you didn't mention that you had done that...

I take the rear sight off and then put the springs back on place in the sight and tape the whole thing together, and place the sight assembly somewhere that I can find it sometime down the road if need be. That way nothing gets lost...

Good-luck...BCB

Thanks for the replies guys. I did not remove the rear site until today. For some reason when i got the base, I held it up to the site. Looked like the base holes were spaced to far out(like the gap between my ears) Plus I only seen the 2 screw in the site and 4 holes in the base. Duhh you cant see under the site until removed. I guess you can say I had not only a brain fart, but a couple ::)

On the upside, after a pot of coffee this morning and typing my plee for help. I got the Contender out again, and took the site off. What do you know it is exactly what I needed (thanks to Grumulkin )

Now I have less than a week to get it sited in and hope 1 of the 2 loads I have worked up will work.
