How long does it take them to respond to a email? I have sent 2 over the last few months and no reply.
What did you do today...for Freedom?
Today, at the front, he died...Today, what did you do? Next time you see a list of dead and wounded, ask yourself: "What have I done for freedom? What can I do tomorrow that will save the lives of men like this and help them win the war?"

I would like to purchase a stock and just trying to find out how long the average time from order recived to order shiped would be. Not in a rush to buy just looking for a response. I would like to cordinate the order before I come back state side so its arrival is shortly after mine.

Your best bet is to call. They very RARELY reply to e-mails.

As for wait time on a stock...they will tell you 4-6 weeks but it's more like 14-16 weeks. At least that was my experience with them.

Pretty nice looking product.

Those are very nice, however I am wanting a laminate for a model 14. As far as calling them the time difference between Korea and the states, along with my work schedule doesnt really give me time durring their work hours. Bummer.

I don't know if you folks have heard about this, but I'll post it anyway. Savage does not make their own stocks. They sub that work out to Boyds. A lady that works at Savage told some guys on one of my sites about this. If you have ...say a model 93 Savage in .17 cal....Go to Boyds Stocks home page....find their search block and type in SAVAGE   93   . A few pages will come up that are factory seconds that are in fantastic shape. They generally sell for $67 -$70 for rimfire stocks. I believe that is about two thirds off. That is not bad for a laminated thumbhole target stock. Many  times only the QC folks at Boyds see a problem. A few examples I recently saw were  ...stock discounted because the nutmeg shade of wood was off a hair. ....one had the vent holes were forgot to be drilled on it. That would be great for a woodworker guy to take a router and mke his own custom holes.,,,a few have what they call "proud metal" around the little mag hole rim on the bottom where noone sees it....They also have factory seconds for many other rifles and shotguns including military rifles. If you save a hundred bucks or so on a stock there just consider it my Christmas present to the group this year...

I recived a reply email. Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control and we just dont relize it. It is nice to know that I wasnt being blown off and I will still attempt doing buisness with them. It goes to show they must have good cs if they are backtracking to follow up. Here is the email in case anyone else is awaiting a product or service.

Your email was received while I was ill.

I have fallen so far behind on the emails; I cannot keep up.

If you still need assistance, please resend email. I am back to working and working very long days. We will do our best to answer as quickly as possible.

I do apologize for the inconvenience this may have created.

Sincerely,

Have you tried Boyds?
They "SSS"  make a great trigger, but I think their customer service just sucks. I have been " misinformed" by them too many times and If I can't buy their parts from another vendor, I will get another part.

Fred and Lisa have been swamped with work for over 2 years now , they have even hired another smith to work in the shop to help speed up filling orders , How do I know this ? because I live 3 miles from them .  ;)

They have even gotten to the point that you must reserve a slot to have work done , because of the amount of people that want things done by them .

And for what its worth , their products are worth the wait !

Yes, I got on the list for an action true. They said 3 months, we will call when we are close, fine, sounds great. I called in three months and asked for a educated guess on where I was at on the list, Lisa told me something like 38th, should be in the next month or so, and I said OK, I have lots of guns, really not a prob. I called in a couple of months and asked where I was on the list and she said, sorry we have been busy, and I said OK where am I on the list and she looked and told me something like there are 50 people in front of you because we are so busy. I was a little P.O.ed with the growth of the list, but I was sure I wanted them to do the work because of there reputation. After nine months I called and she said it was taking up to a year to get work done. You know what, I have waited longer than that for a blueprint job on a 700 and did not complain because the smith was honest when he told me he would get to me when he could, but If I was in any kind of hurry, take it to another gunsmith, "that he recomended as doing good work". I will not send them SSS any work of mine after being misled at best. I have no idea how many jobs got moved in front of mine and at this point I don't care. There are many good gunsmiths out there for Savage rifles that will not blow smoke in an orifice that does not desire smoke to be blown into such. Screw me once your bad, screw me twice my bad!

Oh...but SSS is the BEST!!!!!  ::) ::) ::) Horse puckey!

The only reason they still exist is the fact that people are under the impression that there are no other Savage smiths out there!

I feel you pain moorepower...they did the same to me! Told me 6-8 weeks on a stock and I got it at 16 weeks! I still say the only other reason I got it at that point was due to me asking for a refund and calling the CC company!

There products are nice but their CS and company ethic just SUCK!

That has not been my experience with them. I had an action blue printed last winter - 8 weeks. You have to call ahead of time and get an RMA number, they will tell you when to send it in, which may not be right away. When I want one of their products, I call and have it with in a week. Last winter I ordered a custom Savage barrel from Shilen, it took just 9 weeks for it to show up on my door step. I ordered another custom barrel in August. It is in 22 BR with 1 - 8" twist to handle long bullets. At 14 weeks I called to see what is going on and I was told it is taking 16 weeks for Savage barrels to be completed. Mine was chambered, but needed bore lapping and the crown finished yet. She said it should ship next week. I am feeling I am getting the run around, we will see. I should have ordered it through SSS, but Shilen offered more options. Throat length to match my dummy cases and bore lapping. I think all the shops are busy right now.

I think that service with SSS can be hit or miss. About this time last year I called to get some parts to convert a .223 LRPV to 300 Wsm (bolt head, baffle, firing pin). Getting ahold of someone can be difficult at times. When I talked to Lisa, she was very helpfull. I asked about the wait to have an action T&T and was told they could get it done in February. When the parts didn't show up after 2 weeks I called. They said that the parts were on back order, but I should have them in a week. While on the phone I scheduled to have my action worked over. I got the parts 9 days later, and got a call to send the ation in at the end of January. I sent it in and had it back in 3 weeks. It seemed pretty reasonable to me.

It seems like they just can't keep up with the customers. I understand that they're a small shop and that Fred does most of the work, but it seems like they need to expand a little. FWIW, I'm very happy with the work they did. But I don't believe that they are "the best" out there. Like any gunsmith, some people will deal with the wait times just to have a particular person work on their gun. If you're that type of person SSS is worth waiting for. If not, there are lots of other good smiths out there.

When I called them I did get my name on the list and they DID keep giving me a different # and time frame that I could expect the work done.
