At 08:03 opening morning I put this one down with my 38-55 TC!!

That 265 gr. jacketed bullet liquified everything in it's path!

The pic is from my trail camara taken the day before opening day. Besides this fellow I had a spike, 4 and 6 pointer around my stand that day.

The 45-120 tryed to get in the truck this morning but it's the M73's turn next!

More pics later... I have to sneek away from deer camp to get to a computer.

Way to kick off the season! It's cool hunting with the old nostalgic cartridges, especially when you make meat and the other folks in camp are using the latest new short fat super duper wiz bang cartridges!

Hey Richard,

You may be better off to stick with that 38/55. Not sure if that 500 gr. 45/120 would take one of our big Georgia deer. Surely if you did try to shoot one, you would wait for a really close broadside shot so as not to ask to much from the '120. Still not sure about the on game performance since I have never even heard of anyone shooting a deer with such a round. Hurry up and get all the rifles ahead of it a deer so that we can all see for sure if that is indeed a worthy cartridge. If it can kill one, I may even ream my little bitty 45/70 up to a 120. Man, I DO love those big bores !! Good hunting and shooting, of course I would expect nothing less from another good ol Georgia boy !!

I'm looking for does now, but I had a buck doggin a doe this morning. They turned off the trail about 30 yards away and I couldn't get a shot. Ima gonna take the 45-120 out this evening. I hate trackin deer in the dark!

Excellent job from a Ga. boy! I'm a mite aggravated because I haven't really got to hunt yet. Gotta' go out of town next weekend as well. Just kill a couple for me and I'll feel better.

Just an update... Been passing up does and fawns all week, but killed a big 6 pt. last night. Now my buck tags are all gone and the rut hasn't even started!

The buck last night was with my 45 Colt Uberti M-73 so I won't say anything more about it...

So now it's my 45-120 for a doe, and my 260 for a fawn - so I can have that M7 made into a 250 Savage!

- Then the rest of the season with my 44 Mag. Ruger SBH Bisley Hunter; maybe one more doe. $:-\$

BTW, I missed a 4 pt. at 30 yds...

Looks like the teasing was not real teasing and we should be shocked and suprised when a deer runs strain into on of your bullets.
we know it was not that you sent one to the deer.

I think you should use the 44 loaded with specials on the fawn rather than the 260. that will be a mess.
But cook the fawn whole like a lamb..... MMMMMM

But my buddy hit one with a 308. Had his scope dialed up to 12 on the 4-12X40 scope he had.
Saw the deer filled the scope (he read how to use the range finding and it said if the deer fills the scope set at 4X it is a point blank and shoot) so he shot. hit this poor little deer that was smaller than the year old Lab Puppy. But fit on the grill whole.

I wrote a response... lost it somehow... to tired to rewrite it...

The 4 pt is fine, got pictures of him on the trail cam yesterday. He gave me a good lesson in what I've forgotten about shooting open sights though.

'spose to rain tomorrow. I may just take my M94 and wander around looking for other stand sites...

I tell ya, it's a different world down here. I've walked in to a half dozen different 7-11 type stores, dirty, unshaven, long hair, wearing a pistol on my hip and nobody bats an eye!

'course these same stores are also running out of beer by this time... $:-\$ Sure am glad we still got part of a keg at camp...
