I live in Auburn, AL, home of Auburn University. The Football games generate a lot of money for the University and the local area. Football gets enough money to pay for all the other athletics as well as fund a new university library with over a million books. Money was used to build parking decks on campus also. Local area gets money from fans spending especially at local restaurants and motels/hotels. Auburn runs a bus system to the local mall shopping centers, Wal-mart, K-Mart, and apartment complexes to pick up fans going to the game and returns them after the game. The businesses don't mind the people parking there during the games as it generates business for them. No recession here during games. They usually have 8 home games a year. 87,500 is the stadium size (10th largest in the country). Of course the money pays for expensive coaches too. Almost all games are sellouts. Of course with all the SEC games played, it always brings the crowds. More people attend SEC games than any other conferences.
