Friend's new Browning X Bolt Madallion
« on: September 19, 2009, 08:20:05 AM »
My hunting buddy is about as cheap as you can get.  But when he won a $500 gift certificate at the Bass Pro Shop he combined it with another couple of hundred dollars in store money + cash and bought a new Browning in .270.  All in all he has a little over $300 in a new Medallion.  Let me tell you, that is one beautiful rifle!  Light wt., 60 degree bolt lift, etc.

He brought it with him when he was up here on business and we mounted a scope on it and filled in the engraving with a gold inlay kit.  Looked pretty good BTW.

The bad news is that when I put it in the gun cradle to mount the scope, we saw two parallel gouges in the stock!   :o  The gouges weren't there when he bought the rifle, and he couldn't figure out how they happened.  But he was sick about it!

The good news is that he called Browning and they told him to send them the rifle and they would fix it.  That's pretty good considering they weren't responsible for the damage.  'course ol' Tommy asks if they can have it back for deer season next month and they say no, but hunt with it this season and then send it back for the stock repair!

Not bad customer service!   ;D

Oh, BTW.  The scope he put on it?  a $49 Tasco...  ::)  I told you the boy was cheap!   :D

Sounds like my neighbor.  Cheepest person I have ever known.  He will analyze a problem for months, drive all over half the state looking and pricing, then purchase something from someone hours from home, who can not service the product.

They say you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink.  Well, my neighbor would probably circle the waterhole for days, then drink it dry if it was free.

Just curious.  Does your friend have any experience with $49 scopes?

Enough to know better!    :)  One of his el cheapos went south on him opening day of deer season a couple years back.  Two good bucks stood there and let him empty his rifle at them...  :D

But this scope says "Ateck" and everybody knows that's a good scope...  According to him anyway...  ::)  Or is that a Simmons?  Whatever... same quality stuff...

If I even suggested he put a Leupold on it he would have a heart attack just thinking about the price!  He'd take one if I gave it to him though...  ;)
