My hunting buddy is about as cheap as you can get. But when he won a $500 gift certificate at the Bass Pro Shop he combined it with another couple of hundred dollars in store money + cash and bought a new Browning in .270. All in all he has a little over $300 in a new Medallion. Let me tell you, that is one beautiful rifle! Light wt., 60 degree bolt lift, etc.
He brought it with him when he was up here on business and we mounted a scope on it and filled in the engraving with a gold inlay kit. Looked pretty good BTW.
The bad news is that when I put it in the gun cradle to mount the scope, we saw two parallel gouges in the stock!

The gouges weren't there when he bought the rifle, and he couldn't figure out how they happened. But he was sick about it!
The good news is that he called Browning and they told him to send them the rifle and they would fix it. That's pretty good considering they weren't responsible for the damage. 'course ol' Tommy asks if they can have it back for deer season next month and they say no, but hunt with it this season and then send it back for the stock repair!
Not bad customer service!

Oh, BTW. The scope he put on it? a $49 Tasco...

I told you the boy was cheap!
