Gunstocks Inc pics request.
« on: September 15, 2009, 03:57:34 PM »
Can some of you guys & gals please post some pics of your GSI stocks please.

I only have my walnut set I got off of Tim as a reference, but I'm really considering one of the laminates this time.  ..Specifically the Black/Gray set.  I'm thinking of doing a black/gray with the high roll-over cheek and target/varmint forearm on one of my BC's.

It is not a laminate but it is from GSI.  They have fast service and a good product.

Here in Texas we are very considerate of our neighbors ;)  That is a 44 mag with my 45 ACP can on the end.  With handloaded sub sonic ammo this thing is very quiet.  I also have my Handi 30-06 and soon a 357 mag that will be threaded for cans.  I love single shots with silencers.

By the way, silencers are not just for evil black rifles, Hiram Maxim started the ball rollin back before the first World War by commercializing these things.  He made them to fit every rifle available at the time.  I have seen pictures of factory threaded Winchester rifles to accept silencers.  He went out of business in 1934 when the National Firearms Act came out.  It required a $200 tax to transfer ownership of a silencer to individuals.  tax is still $200 so it is comparatively cheap nowadays. This is an Italian replica

dieselten, what are you allowed to do with silencers? Hunt vermin? Or is it strictly a target shooting proposition? Is the tax for each silencer, or a one time tax for all silencer purchases? Just curious.

Its just like the same tax to transfer a machinegun, short barreled rifle or shotgun, destructive device, etc..   Its a one time tax of $200 to register the NFA item with the federal govt.   Each state though has their own laws on top of that which may or may not make them illegal, or require state level registration as well.  Some states dont allow hunting with silencers, some do.

The tax is on each NFA device,  $200 per device, per transfer of ownership or manufacture.  If you want 2 silencers, you will have to fill out 2 sets of applications and corresponding fingerprints, CLEO sign offs and citizenship certs, and send $400.  Wait for the FBI check.   ...but if your state doesn't allow ownership of them, the feds will not approve the transfer or manufacture.

Correct, $200 tax plus forms and a background check on each item.  In Texas we can hunt any non game animal with ANY weapon that is legal to own.  Non game animals are varmints like coyote, hogs, racoon, armadillo, etc...  These animals can be hunted with a silenced machinegun if you want, or a GE Minigun.

For maximum sound reduction you need the projectile to be sub sonic (below the speed of sound) which is about 1100 fps.  So for maximum hunting power you want the biggest heaviest projectile since all the projectiles must be around 1050 fps.  This is why a 44 mag is more desirable than a 357 mag.  Some people use super long and heavy bullets in other calibers like 300 whisper, but then you need special fast twist barrels to stabilze.  The 44 mag handi is at a slight disadvantage due to the 1-38" twist compared to most other 44 mag rifles that use much faster twists.

Next question...

Do the lam's weigh more than the walnut?  I'm hoping they do.
